Mechanical Design Engineer

Reed are excited to offer an opportunity for two Design Engineers to join our clients New Product Introduction team. Our client is a leading global manufacturer in the turf maintenance and vehicle industry, and we are looking for innovative individuals to contribute to their diverse and dynamic team. This role is based at their manufacturing facility in Ipswich and is ideal for candidates with a passion for engineering and design, particularly within the mechanical field.
Day to Day of the role:
- Ensure all designs meet technical, performance, reliability, and cost targets as identified by senior engineering staff.
- Produce and maintain all drawings, Bill of Material records, outline assembly instructions, and Technical Publications consistent with the Engineering Change process.
- Liaise with Manufacturing staff to ensure designs can be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively, incorporating mistake-proofing or visual guidelines where necessary.
- Utilise best practice documents and standard in-house components, liaising with other Engineers and departments when implementing new principles.
- Read, understand, and incorporate requirements of standards and directives relevant to the product under development.
- Assist in the development of test regimes to validate design elements of a project.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree qualified or equivalent in an engineering-related field, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
- Comfortable designing in a variety of materials including steels, plastics, and alloys.
- Experience taking design concepts through to medium volume production to meet specifications and timescales.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of CAD (ideally UG NX).
- Knowledge of FEA software (ideally ANSYS) is desirable.
