Mechanical Engineering Intern - Summer Placement

Location: Lingley Mere Headquarters, Warrington, UK. Possibility for some hybrid working as well as office based working, to be agreed with line manager during on boarding process. The candidate will need to ensure that they can travel to Lingley Mere Headquarters in Warrington on a regular basis and when required.

Duration: 3 months

Salary: £23,152 per annum (pro-rota based on duration)

Working Hours: 37.00 per week

Role Overview

In the Engineering department you will join a large team working on real business projects, carrying out a variety of engineering tasks.

There is an opportunity to develop your Mechanical Engineering skills whilst gaining real world experience working alongside technical specialists and operational engineers solving problems that will impact customers and the environment.

You will gain an understanding of a wide range of projects from strategic level Price Review, to exploring new innovative technologies, design & asset supportability of mechanical assets around the whole asset management lifecycle. You will gain experience looking at the bioresources, wastewater & water areas of the business. Working alongside other graduates you will see how United Utilities operate their accredited IMechE MPDS scheme, including other graduate activities.

You will benefit from the shared knowledge within the UU Mechanical Engineering & UU Asset Supportability Teams and expertise of working with colleagues across the wider Engineering disciplines whilst also developing your own specialist skills and providing a valuable contribution to the team.

We will help you gain an understanding of the projects being undertaken by United Utilities and the methods used to deliver them. Specific tasks may be assigned during this time. You will be accountable for delivering these with the support of experienced engineers and your line manager.

During your 3 month Internship you will also be given the opportunity to visit some our sites. You'll see how we carefully produce clean safe drinking water and how we treat wastewater in order to release it safely back into the environment.

You will also get the opportunity to mix with our current graduates who can share experiences, tips, and guidance with you for the next steps in your career.

What we are looking for

United Utilities are looking for undergraduate Engineers in their penultimate year of studying a Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering degree.

To apply you need to:

• Have researched and have knowledge of United Utilities' engineering activities.
• Be working towards at least a 2:1 in a Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering degree.
• Have a strong foundation of maths and science A-levels.
• Have good IT skills particularly in Microsoft Office.
• Be motivated and enthusiastic, an excellent team player, possessing ambition and drive.
• Possess good written and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and influence across all levels.
• Be able to be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to deadlines as well as being able to prioritise your time.
