Your new role
We are currently looking for a Mechanical Supervisor at HMP in Erlestoke (nearby Devizes/Outside Bath) to join the existing maintenance team and report to the Mechanical Manager and distribute their time between site work as well as some office work.
As a Mechanical Site Supervisor, you will be required to lead and manage the maintenance team with the aim of delivering planned and reactive maintenance and support when required to meet site standards and short/long term objectives.
Part of the job also includes the management of customer interface and making sure to address client concerns. This is an active on-site role which will require strong communication skills, building relationships and supplier management/coordination skills. Working as part of the maintenance team on site, the supervisor will be expected to positively contribute to the performance of the business and encourage the team, leading by example.
Other duties/responsibilities will include and be limited to:
To be responsible for ensuring all mechanical and other systems as required by the site manager, are maintained in alignment with the service specification, industry best practice and regulatory requirements, including business compliance activities.
To take accountability for the supervision of all staff and ensure the work area is maintained to a high standard.
Ensure all activities are effectively prioritised in-line with local procedures, ensuring workload/regime is delivered escalating issues to the Site Manager when required.
Contribute to the development of local practice, process, and initiatives, ensure consistency across the unit in the application of policies and procedures affecting prisoners and staff.
Carry out prisoner interviews, inductions and supervise prisoners within the area of work, ensuring that they are appropriately inducted and deployed, completes basic documentation relating to prisoners where required, such as logging hours worked.
Ensure prisoner security is maintained, including conducting prisoner-rub down and pat-down searches in accordance with policy.
Undertake staff appraisals providing relevant performance information to line managers
To take accountability for the effective management of the tool inventory and maintain security standards within the work area.
To uphold the agreed standard of prisoner discipline within the work area. This includes issuing of behaviour warnings and logging as appropriate.
Assist with the monitoring and maintaining of employee qualification levels, including appropriate levels of registration and licences where applicable for staff for Health and Safety and legal compliance.
To advise and support on payroll issues/enquiries raised directly ensuring that appropriate investigations, analysis, review, recommendations, and approvals are forthcoming within appropriate timescales.
To assist with the development of concise, detailed budgetary information to inform annual and monthly budgetary forecasting processes.
To take accountability for ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and company policy, including undertaking the role of Fire Warden and/or first Aider as required.
To participate in the site and service inspection tours to monitor, analyse and evaluate against quality standards.
Ensure the work stores have adequate stock for day-to-day maintenance activities.
Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of electronic systems relating to people and tasks in the area of responsibility.
Update the CAFM system as and when required.
Attend any training required to complete the role of the site supervisor.● WORKING HOURS: Monday to Thursday 8am - 5pm. Friday 8am - 4pm.
What you'll need to succeed
Previous maintenance experience in similar organisation or facilities management.
You must have a NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or Equivalent
Ability to manage a team
Strong communication skills
Essential Health and Safety knowledge
Supervisory experience
