Mechanical Technician - Site based
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experience Mechanical Technician toprovide maintenance and inspection services, participate in an out-of-hours call-out roster for trouble shooting and corrective maintenance, complete maintenance, testing and adjustments on mechanical systems including equipment covered by the Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR) and critical to Process Safety Management considering COMAH Regulations.
The Mechanical Technician will have a recognised professional qualification in a relevant mechanical discipline to NVQ level 3 or equivalent standard or extensive demonstrable experience in lieu of this. Awareness of fundamental Health and Safety practices in the workplace as well as Hands-on experience of completing maintenance on mechanical equipment.
The role will require a full UK driving license as the position is based in our Thames site near Canvey Island (SS17)
Role:
To maintain the integrity of mechanical systems ensuring compliance with company and statutory requirements and in response to breakdowns. To oversee and develop a system which implements and records the completion of maintenance and inspection on plant and equipment at allocated locations. Perform other maintenance and operational tasks on COMAH Top Tier and Lower Tier storage Terminals and pipeline systems.
Main Duties & Responsibilities (typical day to day):
- Provide maintenance and inspection services to maintain 98% plant availability targets within COMAH Top Tier storage Terminals and pipeline systems
- Participate in an out-of-hours call-out roster for trouble shooting and corrective maintenance on a 24/7 - 365-day basis. Work additional hours as reasonably expected to fulfil extraordinary maintenance and inspection duties and project work which will occasionally necessitate night working.
- Attain and maintain competency to be authorised to work on high-pressure systems transporting flammable substances within DSEAR / ATEX legal requirements and company standards.
- Complete maintenance, testing and adjustments on mechanical systems including equipment covered by the Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR) and critical to Process Safety Management considering COMAH Regulations.
- Attain and maintain competency as an authorised person to work on mechanical systems including responsibility to produce and implement mechanical isolations.
- Complete and supervise maintenance, fault finding and repair on all Mechanical Systems within operational sites. Systems include high-pressure pipework, high-pressure multi-stage pumps, PSSR equipment, bulk storage tanks, actuation systems, oily water separation / treatment systems, fiscal metering, level gauging, security.
- Complete fault finding on EC&I systems within competency limits including 24/7 breakdown response.
- Interact with engineering projects having an input into all stages of the project plan ensuring works are planned and completed with due regard to requirements for safety and operations.
- Work to planned maintenance and inspection procedures and schedules, using the maintenance management system including the upkeep of plant history files.
- Supervise works in proximity to buried cross country pipelines in accordance with established working procedures.
- Provide operational support as required in response to emergency situations including dealing with emergency services and statutory bodies.
- Participate with company working groups and committees as required.
- Source suppliers, obtain quotes, agreement of Terms and conditions, raise orders for goods and services required for maintenance and inspection responsibilities in accordance with the company purchasing system.
Requirements (qualifications, education, experience and/or skills):
Essential
- A recognised professional qualification in a relevant mechanical discipline to NVQ level 3 or equivalent standard or extensive demonstrable experience in lieu of this.
- Awareness of fundamental Health and Safety practices in the workplace.
- Hands-on experience of completing maintenance on mechanical equipment.
- Full Driving Licence.
- Numerate, good command of English language both written and oral.
Desirable
- Indentured mechanical apprenticeship.
- Experience of working in a hazardous process Industry
- Experience of working with a CMMS, fault finding and repair on mechanical equipment.
