Job: Medical Secretary
Location: Lancaster
Rate of Pay: GBP11.36 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, part-time is available
Job Type: Temporary 3 months
Due to a peak in workload, we are looking to recruit an Interim Medical Secretary for a period of 3 months. Reporting to the Senior Patient Services Manager you will support a team of General Practitioners and work as part of a supportive team of Medical Secretaries.
Day to day duties will include:
- Provide an efficient, accurate and comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to clinical staff
- Transcribe audio dictated and written correspondence
- Manage patient referrals
- Provide and maintain a failsafe method to ensure that referrals, prioritising urgent referrals, have been actioned appropriately
- Communicate and liaise with all healthcare providers and provide and receive information in a clear, accurate and concise manner
- Take messages effectively and to pass on to relevant clinician/team. Ensure that actions are taken and followed up if necessary
- Accurately add correspondence to patient records, coding if required
- Develop and maintain efficient and effective electronic and paper filing systems within a shared drive, ensuring that information is kept securely and is accessible to other members of the team as appropriate
- Work closely with the patients of the practice and their family/carers to provide information if required.
- Undertake administrative duties such as photocopying and email / mail distributions
- Assist doctors with administrative tasks
- Attend meetings and take minutes if required.
- Provide cover for other team members as required.
Skills and experience required:
- Previous secretarial experience ideally within a similar role
- Highly motivated
- Able to work as part of a team of Secretaries
- Good attention to detail
- Demonstrable experience in dealing with the public and dealing with sensitive and confidential
- Previous experience of working in General Practice, NHS or Healthcare setting would be desirable
- Strong use of Microsoft Office, email and the internet
- Ability to multitask and organise workload
- Possess a professional appearance
