Engagement Worker – Business & Administration Unit

Location

Mosaic Clubhouse, 65 Effra Road, Brixton, SW2 IBZ

Accountable to

Business & Administration Coordinator

Responsible for

Members (service users) working within the Business & Administration unit, and members allocated to their engagement worker list.

General summary

Mosaic Clubhouse is an integrated Clubhouse and resource centre providing personalised community support for people with Mental Health problems in Lambeth. We aim to create a supportive community and opportunity centre, designed to identify and fulfil individual and collective potential. We call our service users ‘members’, to emphasise co-production. Members’ work, energy and ideas are needed to make the Clubhouse function. Clubhouse members actively participate in decision–making and in all operational and administrative functions of the Clubhouse, and the services it provides to members and visitors.

The Business and Administration unit (B&A) unit provides the necessary support to enable the Clubhouse to function effectively and efficiently as a business. This includes data collection to inform business outcomes, production of minutes, agendas, board papers, policy meeting minutes, annual reports, reception management, greeting of visitors, arranging tours and liaison with external organisations using the building. Members are supported to access personalised support strategies available throughout the Clubhouse including education and employment (through the E&E unit), housing and legal support, recovery planning, (through the Information Hub) community, social and wellbeing activities.

Key Responsibilities / Competencies

Goal- Planning and Mentoring

  • Identify members’ strengths and skills by involving them in the work of the Clubhouse and, in doing so, support members to regain confidence and self-esteem.
  • Assist members in building a positive relationship with the Clubhouse by identifying and achieving goals, then building on these achievements to make further progress.
  • Ensure that goals, individual support, and vocational outcomes are monitored and recorded using our database, Salesforce.

Advocacy and mediation

  • Working with other Mosaic units to support members in gaining access to appropriate community services, housing and welfare benefits, and advocacy as necessary.
  • Liaise with other services, family members, and carers, attending relevant meetings, as necessary.

Employment Support

As per the Clubhouse Placement Management Guidelines: assist in the overall management of the Transitional Employment Programme and provide individual mediation and support as required.
Clubhouse Participation

  • Comply with Mosaic Clubhouse’s policies and procedures and with Clubhouse international standards, following all instructions, information and training supplied.
  • Work alongside members, respecting and promoting the ethos and philosophy of the Clubhouse.
  • Help members and staff to create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and members.
  • Encourage and facilitate the participation of members in unit meetings and house meetings.
  • Organise and/or participate in the social and leisure activities at Mosaic Clubhouse in the spirit of the Clubhouse philosophy. This will include some evening, weekend, and public holiday work on a rota basis.
  • Participate in routine cleaning and maintenance tasks as required.

Business & Administration Unit support

  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of all activities and programmes hosted by the B&A Unit under the guidance of the Business & Administration Coordinator and the Programme Manager.
  • Motivate and engage members in the work of the B&A Unit, identifying and delegating tasks.
  • Promptly address any IT issues that occur in B&A and the reception by using your own knowledge and/or by communicating with Mosaic’s IT support company. Help maintain and update our website, Twitter, and Facebook accounts.
  • Collect and submit data reports promptly, as agreed with the senior administrator of the Unit

Information governance and confidentiality

  • All staff will be given training in information governance and its importance and will be expected to undertake and successfully complete an online assessment to demonstrate their competence in this area.

Selection Criteria

Drawing upon involvement in previous and current employment, education, training and personal experiences the applicants are required to demonstrate competency to meet each of the work areas. 

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent IT skills: experience with Microsoft applications, Word, Excel, Email, PowerPoint
  •  Prior experience (including volunteer work) working in administration.
  • A willingness to work in accordance with the International Clubhouse Model Standards and a commitment to participatory approaches.
  • Understanding of the needs of people belonging to diverse or disadvantaged groups.

Preferred Criteria

  • Educated with good pass at A level standard or equivalent, or NVQ Level 3. Prior experience working with Mental Health services users in a community rehabilitation programme/support or therapeutic context.
  • Prior experience of working within a Clubhouse context or similar participatory managed programme.
  • International Clubhouse Training is highly desirable.
  • Experience of planning and implementing activities and events. Prior experience of managing databases.
  • Understanding of Performance Indicators.
  • Experience in motivating people to set and reach targets.

Summary of Terms & Conditions of Service  

  • The salary for the post of Engagement Worker is £30,152 paid monthly in arrears by BACS, this includes London Allowance.
  • The post is for 37 ½ hours per week. When necessary, with the prior agreement of the Programme Manager, time off in lieu may be taken. There is no payment for overtime.
  • You will be entitled to 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays pro rata. This rises to 28 days annual leave after two years.
  • You will receive regular line management supervision from a suitably qualified person.
  • The post has a 6-month probationary period.
  • The contract may be terminated by giving one month’s notice on either side.
  • The Clubhouse operates a Group Personal Pension Scheme.
