Job Title: CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner

Grade: Band 8a

Ward/Dept: Lambeth Specialist Healthy Weight Project

Trust: South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Mary Sheridan Centre, SE11 4TH

Hours: Thursdays & Fridays, 09.00-17.00 (15 hours a week)

Pay Rate: £26.06 per hour

South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) provide the widest range of NHS Mental Health services in the UK. SLAM serves a local population of 1.3 million people in south London, as well as specialist services for children and adults across the UK and beyond. Each year SLAM provides inpatient care for over 5,000 people and treat more than 40,000 patients in the community in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, and Croydon.

This role is within a community-based project requiring the postholder to take lead and responsibility over, as well as working in conjunction with the wider MDT team. The postholder must be confident in their ability to work autonomously and have skills within clinical admin, data quality, assessing and supporting families and safeguarding concerns. This post involves working to promote the emotional and physical health and wellbeing of children ages 5-12 years who are living with excess weight.

The Team at the Mary Sheridan Centre consists of a Highly Specialist Family Therapist / Service Lead, Consultant Paediatrician, Specialist Dietician, and Physical Activity Specialist. The team provides care and support for children affected by excess weight in the community. A systemic biopsychosocial approach is key to the project ethos.

To be successful in applying for this role you will need:

· Have a professional qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Family Therapy, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy or equivalent with related CAMHS Experience.

· Have a current registration with the appropriate registration body (Nursing and Midwifery Council, Social Work England or Health and Care Professions Council).

· To have the suitable experience in a Mental Health setting or have at least 3 years of post-qualifying experience within the Mental Health field

· A driving license and access to a car – travel will be required for this role including some home visits

In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of:

· Relevant Qualifications

· Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable

The role of the CAMHS Practitioner is to provide specialist assessment, formulation and intervention to children and their families, and offer consultation and liaison to the wider network which includes, but is not limited to:

· Providing specialist assessments of children referred to the service in collaboration with family members and others involved in the children’s care

· Formulating and implementing plans therapeutic support to promote emotional and physical health

· Being responsible for undertaking therapeutic session for children and their carers, families and groups, drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses

· Exercising autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment options and discharge planning, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group

· Providing specialist advice guidance and consultation to other professionals involved in the patient’s care
