At Mill Green Museum and Mill we operate a remarkable 200-year-old working watermill, milling organic stoneground flour for our community and commercially for local bakeries. Throughout the year we are open to visitors and school groups who enjoy learning about the history of the mill and how it works. We are looking for a miller and Technical Assistant to join our existing millers for 15 hours a week, including weekend work on a rota system. As part of a small team based at the picturesque Mill Green Museum & Mill, you will need to be collaborative and friendly, eager to help others and dedicated to learning as you are trained in your role. You will benefit from a varied and welcoming working environment set in a grade II* historic building which you will play a part in caring for. This is a physically demanding position which will require lifting sacks of grain for short distances (negotiating single flights of stairs) and being on your feet for long periods of time, sometimes outdoors.The role is a public-facing and therefore you must be able to speak to different age groups and value customer service highly whilst producing flour and operating the mill safely. This can lead to some very busy times so you must be able to handle periods of pressure when required. There is some responsibility for overseeing our casual millers, assisting with rotas, and delegating tasks as appropriate.An eye for detail and pride in your work caring for the mill will ensure that all necessary maintenance, cleaning, and record keeping is accurate so that we maintain our Organic Status.Full training will be given by experienced millers, but you will need to have some technical aptitude, woodworking ability and a methodical mind to diagnose faults in moving machinery. An interest in history, sustainable food production, the environment would be beneficial.
