Job description
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES: To assist pathologists in the performance of post-mortem examinations including the preparation, evisceration, and reconstruction of the deceased. To contribute to the management of the mortuary storage facility ensuring HTA guidelines and departmental protocols are followed. Financial & Management 1.1 To be aware of the financial constraints within the NHS and Pathology and ensure that there is no unnecessary wastage of supplies or resources. Personnel & Training 2.1 To work closely with fellow mortuary technicians and Pathologists 2.2 To host mortuary tours for working groups within the trust and visiting Funeral Directors, Hospital Clinicians, and retrieval teams 2.3 In conjunction with the Senior APT, to provide and certify training of porters and visiting Funeral Directors in use of mortuary equipment, mortuary process and handling of deceased within the mortuary environment.
Service Delivery and Quality 3.1 To undertake the receipt and release of deceased in line with departmental protocols and HTA guidelines, ensuring all identification checks as per relevant legislation are completed, ensuring the dignity of the deceased and adherence to the needs of HM Coroners for Surrey and Hampshire. 3.2 To maintain the mortuary premises in terms of hygiene and infection control both for the storage of routine and verminous deceased and after invasive post-mortem procedures have been undertaken 3.3 To maintain all mortuary records as per HTA legislation and the needs of the Trust and HM Coroners for Surrey and Berkshire 3.4 To prepare deceased prior to post mortem examination, to assist de-robing/undressing and documenting effects and possession, overcoming the effects of rigor mortis in order to present the deceased ready for an autopsy, removal of surgical lines under the guidance and instruction of the Senior APT or supervising Pathologist 3.5 To partake in complex anatomical dissection as deemed appropriate by the supervising APT or Pathologist Please refer to the attached JD and Person Specification for further information.
