Job description

MRI services at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) recent installation of two new 1.5T MRI systems in a brand new, purpose-built MRI suite alongside our CT and ultrasound scanning services on the RCH site in Truro. This creates a great learning and environment for Radiographers keen to expand their careers in the MRI world. Our new MRI unit is fully compliant for procedures under general anaesthetic, equipped for MR cardiac perfusion, prostate and whole body scanning etc. The new scanning department is modern, child, out, inpatient friendly and within close proximity of our dedicated Radiology reporting and clinical imaging advice hub, which is staffed 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
RCHT is offering B5 dedicated MRI Radiographer posts primarily based at Bodmin CDC however you will be expected to rotate through the RCHT site to maintain your acute / inpatient skills, if you wish to fully focus your career in MRI, or B5 rotational posts between MRI and trauma, acute and general (TAG) x-ray imaging if you want to start to learn routine MR scanning whilst maintaining your TAG skills. Applications are welcomed from Radiographers looking for a career change as well as yr3 student Radiographers or yr3 Apprentice Radiographers who want to work in MRI or MRI / TAG upon qualification. Our MRI service is operational 12 hours a day, 7 days a week on all sites and it is likely that we will be required to introduce a 24/7 out of hours on call service in the future.
To perform a wide range of cross-sectional imaging (CSI) examinations/scans within MRI under supervision of an specialist MRI radiographer.
To work with the MRI Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to ensure the efficient and cost effective delivery of the MRI service
To work as part of a team providing a 7 day and out of hours MRI service which may include working shifts in Trauma, Acute and General (TAG) X-ray.
To work with the Team Leader and Advanced / Specialist Practitioner Radiographers to continually improve the radiography
Justify radiology referrals (within scope of practice) using referral criteria which falls within the Royal College of Radiologists Guidelines and the Clinical Imaging Protocol
To comply with the MHRA Safety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment in Clinical Use and the MRI Departments Local Rules and local safety procedures and with the Ionising Radiation Regulation (IRR 17), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulation (IR(ME)R 2017) and the Trust Radiation Safety Policy.
Liaise closely with Consultant Radiologists and colleagues within clinical multi- disciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive optimum
RCHT Clinical Imaging is a forward thinking, dynamic and friendly department with active participation in clinical research and the development of artificial intelligence. Our services are rated as outstanding with the CQC and we are QSI accredited. We currently have 110 Radiographers and 28 Consultant Radiologists employed with the Trust and our absolute focus is providing first class diagnostic imaging services to patients in Cornwall and the health and well being of our workforce. We fully encourage staff development, promoting continuous professional development opportunities to colleagues at all levels. RCHT provides clinical placements for undergraduate student Radiographers at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth as well as Radiology Registrars from the South West Radiology Academy in Plymouth. The department supports numerous Assistant Radiographer Practitioner (level 5) and Diagnostic Radiographer (levels 6 & 7) apprenticeships. We have a comprehensive induction package for international recruits.
To perform a wide range of examinations within Clinical Imaging
To maintain a high level of clinical and technical expertise to ensure the safe operation of all

To undertake MRI imaging and participate in the wider radiography service
To administer drugs and intravenous contrast agents in line with Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and local protocols, under supervision of Specialist Radiographer / radiologist
To undertake all clinical imaging examinations in a professional manner ensuring a high standard of clinical
To recognise anatomy and pathology (within scope of practice) to enable optimisation of imaging and to liaise with Consultant Radiologists to arrange further images / scan sequences when
To carry out all clinical imaging examinations to the highest standard adhering to MHRA Safety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
To be responsible for the safe use of Radiation within the wider Clinical Imaging Department as well as other areas including wards, operating theatres and the Accident and Emergency Department, and to ensure that the Local Rules are observed at all
