Trafford Council and its partners in the public, private and third sectors have a vision which sees us working together to close inequality gaps and maximise Trafford’s huge potential. Our vision is working together to build the best future for all our communities and everyone in Trafford.

Trafford really is a great place to work. With a positive permission culture, we embrace innovation and encourage performance. We’re keen to recruit someone with the right values and behaviours that can help us ensure our workplace values are at the heart of everything we do.

Trafford Music Service provides musical opportunities for children from across the borough. We are committed to enabling children from all backgrounds to access high quality music provision through curriculum teaching, whole class or instrumental lessons and ensembles.

We currently teach in primary and secondary schools across the authority as well as providing an after-school music provision at our Music Centre based in Sale.

We look forward to supporting the successful candidates in their development and we are committed to providing a nurturing and enthusiastic working environment for our staff.

The service’s values are focused on serving our young people and they are enriching lives, inspiring a love of music for all by being supportive, inclusive, dedicated and creative. You can read more about our work on www.traffordmusicservice.co.uk

Trafford Music Service are committed to attracting, recruiting and retaining diverse candidates, as it’s important that our team reflect the communities we serve at every level within the service.

We recognise that having a diverse workforce is essential to bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to our Council, so we warmly encourage applications from under-represented groups and promise a fair and unbiased recruitment process. We are currently under-represented by people with a disability, members of the global majority, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

If you are disabled and your application meets the minimum criteria for the post, we will offer you a guaranteed interview.

About you

Your style and approach will reflect our values and behaviours: you will be committed to continually learning and improving the way you do things to ensure quality music provision for pupils.

You will have excellent organisational and ICT skills and an ability to work efficiently to deadlines. Excellent communication, planning and delivery is essential to this role, and above all else we want to recruit someone with a love for teaching children and inspiring the next generation of children to be musical.

For more information about the team / role please email music.service@trafford.gov.uk

About the Role

We are looking to recruit to several casual roles within the Music Service. We encourage instrumental applicants to apply for the opportunity to develop work in Trafford schools during the daytime as part of our instrumental lessons provision, or delivering whole class Wider Opportunities, and also instrumental work at our Music Centre in the evenings. We are also keen to hear from candidates who do not want regular work (same time and day every week) but would like to provide cover for lessons as and when needed.

We are looking to recruit tutors for all instruments. We currently have high levels of singing, string (upper and lower), piano students on our waiting lists and we are keen to receive applications from brass tutors who are happy to deliver whole class wider opportunities projects. The successful candidate will teach pupils from beginner to Grade 8 level and they will be part of a fabulous, dedicated and inspirational team. Our Senior Leadership Team and Business Support Team will support you in developing and promoting your instrumental teaching within Trafford schools. You may also be offered Music Centre work or cover work depending on your availability.

We welcome applications from candidates who would like to work either during the day, evenings, or both. The ability to teach a second instrument is desirable and we would welcome applications from candidates who are able to teach music theory and aural sessions.

Pay and Working Hours

This post is casual on Teachers’ Pay and Conditions on the Unqualified Teacher pay scale 3-6.

The working days and times are to be arranged according to the successful candidates and our school’s availability.

The working hours for this post are term time only. Candidates should be sure they can commit to teaching during term time before applying. We are committed to providing continuity for our pupils and the highest level of instrumental tutoring. Tutors are employed on Teachers’ pay and conditions and therefore have the school holidays off and all tutors are expected to fully commit to all term dates.

How to apply:

Candidates must complete the online job application form on the Greater.Jobs website.

Candidates must include on their application:

1. Examples of how you meet the attached role profile ‘About You’ criteria.

2. What instrument/s you teach and to what level.

3. Your availability for work (which days and times).

Applications will be scored against how each candidate meets the ‘About You’ criteria on the role profile. Candidates will be notified by email if successful, and invited for a lesson observation.
