Natural Capital Delivery Officer

We are looking for a Natural Capital Delivery Officer to work in our newly formed Environment and Climate Change Service. 

The Service

The Environment Services and Climate Change team have overall responsibility for the Council’s response to climate change and nature recovery, this includes delivery of the climate change strategy, investment in Natural Capital and enabling nature recovery in North Yorkshire. 

The role

As one of our Natural Capital Delivery officers you will be working in a small team on behalf of the North Yorkshire Council, York and North Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA), and City of York Council. You will be part of a team delivering an innovative DEFRA funded project looking at ways to attract Local Investment into Natural Capital in York and North Yorkshire. You will develop a Natural Capital Investment Plan for York and North Yorkshire, deliver exemplar Natural Capital projects, identify a pipeline of investible projects with investment guidance and mechanisms and share best practise with national colleagues working closely with the three other local authorities delivering similar projects.

Local Investment in Natural Capital is a new area nationally and this team will be one of only four local authority teams working with DEFRA, so it provides you a fantastic opportunity to shape the role for the benefit of York and North Yorkshire. 

What you will bring

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject area such as Planning, Natural Environment, agriculture and/or be able to demonstrate significant project management and/or project delivery experience in the workplace. You will have the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners, have excellent interpersonal, diplomacy and communications skills both written and verbally. 

Ideally, we are looking for someone who has an interest in developing skills and experience within natural environment and green finance and through this role there will be opportunities to learn new skills as training will be provided.
