An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of Network Engineer within Kent Police and Essex Police IT Services. The use of IT is at the centre of all aspects of Police work and the forces Network Infrastructure is critical in supporting this and a wide variety of other systems.
This role is perfect for someone looking to get into an IT support role (who can grow in technical ability and take on a wider set of tasks) or with some experience already in a support / troubleshooting environment. This role may also suit a recent IT related graduate looking to enhance their experience within a working environment. Our Infrastructure forms the backbone of Kent Police and Essex Police’s ICT service provision. It is the platform that underpins our applications, systems, and services – and with a massive change programme scheduled for the next 2-3 years. It is an exciting and busy time to join our team. As a Network Engineer you will work as a team of people made up of Senior Network Engineers and Networks Technical Leads in order to support both forces Networks infrastructure. This is an opportunity for candidates with true technical potential to develop their skills in a specialist area of technology and market leading Networks platforms.
Please evidence the following in your application:
- 1-2 years of working in IT Operations (Service Desk, Incident Management, Field Operations)
- Ability to understand instructions and follow technical support procedures with meticulous precision.
- Ability to prioritise, manage and perform under pressure to meet SLA’s.
- Personal motivation and drive with a logical, analytical approach to problem solving and diligence.
- Awareness of network infrastructure
Please tell us if you have any understanding or knowledge for any of the following which is desirable, yet development and training will be provided:
- An understanding of ITIL processes for incident and problem management and how they are applied.
- Any previous experience of working in an IT Networking environment.
The role is based at Chelmsford HQ as an office based agile worker. The role will offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including some home working. The extent of flexibility will be agreed through individual assessment with the line manager to assess operational requirements and individual’s suitability for home working. In the event that home working is agreed for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend the contractual workplace.
This is a Monday-Friday ‘office hours’ role, 37 hours a week.

Essex Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £36,213.00.
