ABOUT THE ROLE

We are hiring a Night Support Coach, you will contribute to successfully rehabilitating and reintegrating our Residents and Participants back into the community. Providing pathways, support, and appropriate interventions that will enable successful resettlements, and deliver to achieve more safer, integrated communities for our stakeholders.

You will identify the needs, goals and skills of the person they support and motivate them to achieve their potential. A strong focus on public protection and effective risk management is essential for this role.

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week. The service is staffed 24 hours per day. The shifts for this position will vary Monday to Sunday, patterns could be 20:00 - 09:30 approx. 3 nights a week on a rolling rota. 
You may also be required to attend team meetings and training which may fall outside these working hours, and they will be paid accordingly.

ABOUT THE SERVICE

Penrose Drive IAP works with high-risk offenders who are supervised by the Probation Service and is a vital element in public protection arrangements. Penrose Drive can house up to 25 adults of all ages who identify as men and provides them with enhanced supervision through 24/7 staffing, night-time curfews, compliance with consistently enforced rules and a programme of supervision, support, and monitoring, which addresses offending behaviour and the reduction of risk. 

Penrose Drive IAP is, at heart, a community setting, rather than a custodial one and residents can go out into the community, if they do not have any restrictions on their license. Security is therefore flexible in both design and operation. Independent Approved Premises are required to work within the Enabling Environments Standards Framework, a programme delivered by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

ABOUT YOU

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a responsible member of the team, ensure the night service runs smoothly, report any concerns, incidents, and accidents in the correct manner to the right people/groups. 
  • Be a proactive team member to resolve any issues that may arise. 
  • Support the day staff with any additional responsibilities, including caseload support, contributing to the development of support plans, risk assessments, and reviews.
  • Carry out welfare checks throughout the night and at regular intervals as required by the service. 
  • Develop and maintain effective purposeful relationships internally and externally.
  • Recognise signs of deteriorating mental health and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent a crisis.
  • Follow safeguarding protocols and make referrals when necessary.
  • Support with personal needs as required.
  • Support with medication, prompting, and supervision. Make accurate records. 
  • Admin and other duties will vary.

Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position. 

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

  • IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, basic Microsoft experience is required
  • Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, including in the criminal justice field, mental health, and/or substance misuse or a good understanding of the sector
  • Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs
  • Able to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with others

What we would like, but not essential:

  • Appropriate qualification: NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care/Pyschology/Community Justice, or professional equivalent
  • Experience facilitating groups and therapeutic interventions
  • Experience working with different agencies/organisations and understanding the multi-disciplinary approach (Including but not limited to MAPPA/MARAC)
  • Experience of providing housing support and a practical assistance within a residential or outreach support role
  • Experience creating co-produced support plans and providing appropriate interventions for service user and liaising with other professionals

Please note that due to the nature of this service, we will require to conduct extensive background checks including BPSS and DBS as part of our onboarding process.
