Client Group: Brain Injury Centre
Our client is a is a residential service for the rehabilitation of 22 adults with acquired Brain Injury and neurological disorders. The centre is situated in Plymouth, Devon. They opened in 1998. Since this time, the service has gone from strength to strength and now offers facilities for adults with acquired Brain Injury as well as Huntington's Chorea, Motor Neurone Disease, and Parkinson's Disease.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
To contribute to and function as part of the Multi Disciplinary Team with the guidance of the Senior 1 Occupational Therapist
To assess new clients under the supervision of the Senior Therapy Staff
To devise and carry out rehabilitation programmes for clients under the supervision of Senior Therapy Staff.
To work closely with Therapy Assistants offering guidance and advice
To provide Occupational Therapy cover for clients when other Occupational Therapy staff are on Annual Leave or Sickness etc.
Assist with student training and education of Therapy Assistants, Rehabilitation Staff and others with the guidance of the Senior 1 Occupational Therapist
Job Role:
Contribute to and function as part of the Multi Disciplinary Team
To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of Clients allocated to you by the Senior 1 Occupational Therapist
To work within the Policies and Procedures of Waters Park House, BAOT, HPC and COT Code of Ethics.
To plan and organise own caseload in order to meet service demands and ensure service provision with guidance from Senior 1 Occupational Therapist
To undertake complex fact finding and analysis of information during Occupational Therapy Assessments for the designated caseload
To carry out specialist assessments and complex clinical interventions with allocated cases
To develop knowledge and experience of specialist Brain Injury area through Client Experience, regular in-service training, supervision with the Senior 1 Occupational Therapist and attending internal and external courses
To contribute to the monthly reports for the Director of Clinical Services in association with the Therapy Team
To produce written reports for regular Client reviews and relevant assessment and functional reports for outside and other agencies with the support of the Senior 1 Occupational Therapist
To maintain accurate and timely records in care notes, therapy notes, risk assessments and daily reporting of involvement with Clients within 24 hours of client contact
To contribute updating and maintaining the resource material and relevant forms required for the Therapy Team
To identify and recommend relevant physical resources required i.e. therapeutic and assessment equipment within Centre
To take responsibility for knowing and following departmental policies and procedures and supporting other team members to do the same
To report any accident or untoward incident in the correct format
To manage a caseload with support from the Senior 1 Occupational Therapist delegating tasks to Therapy Assistants and administration support
To contribute to the professional development of the therapy team and identifying training opportunities to improve skills and experience
When appropriate supervise students after completing relevant training
To inform Senior 1 Occupational Therapist/Director of Clinical Services of any shortfalls within the Occupational Therapy service at Waters Park House Brain Injury Centre
To contribute to Centre Developments and training and make recommendations appropriate to the Centre
To exercise good personal time management and punctuality
To exercise consistent reliable attendance
To attend and contribute to Multi Disciplinary Team Meetings, including detailed review reports of Client progress; taking a key role in discharge planning and acting as a resource for future rehabilitation referrals with the guidance of Senior 1 Occupational Therapist
To manage Clinical Risk within own Client caseload at all times and complete Risk assessments where complex cases indicate a need
To work within COT and Centre Policies and Procedures in order to maintain knowledge of local and national standards.
In a sensitive and tactful manner, use clinical knowledge and life skills to build rapport with Clients, so as to engage them and motivate them to participate with their therapy
To gain valid informed Client consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with Clients who lack capacity to consent
To participate in meetings with Management, Clients, Members of the Multi Disciplinary Team, Case Managers, Social Workers, Solicitors and other outside agencies
To liaise with the Senior 1 Occupational Therapist regularly to keep updated of Client and service developments and needs
