An exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified, enthusiastic individual to undertake an Occupational Therapy degree through an apprenticeship scheme running in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire starting in September 2024.
The Apprenticeship is three years in duration and completion of the BSc (Hons) degree in Occupational Therapy will allow you to progress into a HCPC registered Occupational Therapist role and remain at the trust as a qualified Occupational Therapist in our Social Care team.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative individual to be a part of our well-established Occupational Therapy team. You will be joining an innovative and agile Children and Young People's Therapy (CYPT) Service committed to delivering high quality intervention and transforming lives.
Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust provides integrated Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Physiotherapy Services for families across the county. Our Children and Young People Therapy (CYPT) integrated service provides opportunities for collaborative working, joint training and shared learning among each profession. Our service is commissioned by health, Social Care and education, allowing us to provide a seamless pathway from early years through to home, school and further education settings, to enable a child to meet their full potential in participating in activities of daily living.
The Occupational Therapy (Social Care) Apprenticeship combines full time employment, work-based learning and academic study at Foundation Degree Level (Level 5). Apprentices will work in a supported learning environment with our friendly supportive team to develop their clinical competencies and knowledge related to the role of an Occupational Therapist. You will be patient facing from the start- so that you can apply and develop your new knowledge and skills with increasing confidence.
Your clinical days at the Trust will be diverse.

Regular clinical supervision, managerial supervision and have a well-established appraisal system
Training opportunities to develop your skills as you progress in the role, including in service masterclasses
Opportunities to work alongside other therapists and assistants to deliver intervention to children/young people requiring support
An initial induction period where you will have the opportunity to observe and shadow your team
A place on our Preceptorship Programme on completion of your degree. This is a year long programme designed to support and develop our newly qualified clinical staff (including apprentices) in their transition to autonomous, confident, and competent practitioners.

To work within the Occupational TherapySocial Care team. This will include completing assessments around the home for children with disabilities and making recommendations for equipment or changes to the environment, in line with the relevant legislation to improve access to home and to support improvements in quality of life to provide clinical care to patients within Hertfordshire.

Successful candidates will need to be enthusiastic and motivated. Good communication, clinical reasoning and organisational skills are essential. You must be a team player but be able to work autonomously and have the ability to champion the needs of your patients.
