Occupational therapist

  • £35,745 a year, progressing to £39,186. Level 10 job profile - Health and social care services

Newly qualified occupational therapists – if you have recently completed your Occupational therapy degree, you'll be enrolled onto our Supported and Assessed First Year In Employment Programme for Newly Qualified Occupational Therapists (NQOT Programme) with all the benefits and support available for a newly Qualified occupational therapist.  

Senior occupational therapist

  • £40,221 a year, progressing to £44,428. Level 11 job profile - Health and social care services
  • Relocation package, £1,000 welcome payment and lease car (terms apply).
  • Full-time and part-time available.
  • Permanent and fixed term contracts available.

Requirements for the senior role include actively undertaking a specialist role e.g. Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), Best Interests Assessor (BIA), Occupational therapy practice educator, or moving and handling specialist function role. Alternatively, an agreement to undertake at least one of these roles within the first year.

As an Adult Care Services occupational therapist, you'll hold your own caseload and work in partnership with people living in the community across Hertfordshire. You'll undertake a holistic assessment of need to identify person-centred outcomes.

We work in an enabling way with people and their families and carers, to promote independence and participation, through meaningful occupation and a strengths-based approach. Across all our services we aim to ensure that people are provided with the right support and advice, and at the right time.

We work collaboratively alongside social care colleagues, as well as with our health partners, housing and care providers, and a range of community support services.

Your role will also include an opportunity to mentor and develop others.

Key aspects

  • Promote belonging and a strength-based approach to therapy, facilitating active participation in meaningful occupation and activity.
  • Complete a specialist assessment to identify functional and access needs, and make recommendations for key pieces of equipment and/or housing solutions.
  • Provide information and advice to enable an individual to confidently and safely participate in their daily life, includes grading of tasks and activities, and adapting the environment.
  • Provide mentoring, advice, and support to colleagues and contribute to the development of others.

You'll need:

  • a recognised Occupational therapy qualification and be registered with The Health and Care Professions Council
  • to ensure practice is consistent with The Royal College of Occupational Therapists’ Professional standards for Occupational therapy practice, conduct and ethics, and the HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Occupational therapy
  • knowledge and experience of relevant social care legislation, such as the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • to be a confident team member with good decision-making skills
  • the ability to work successfully with partners and other agencies.

About the role

Our occupational therapists will combine a caseload with mentoring and developing others.

You will:

  • promote a strength-based approach to therapy, facilitating active participation in meaningful occupation and activity
  • assess and make recommendations for complex and non-complex pieces of equipment
  • assist the management team with supervising the day-to-day performance
  • work alongside community care officers to give guidance with Occupational therapy assessment needs
  • disseminating and coaching best practices to help teams understand changes and improvements.

You will need:

  • a recognised Occupational therapy qualification and be registered with The Health and Care Professions Council
  • knowledge and experience of relevant social care legislation, such as the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • to be a confident team player with good decision-making skills
  • the ability to work successfully with partners and other agencies.
