Job description

Open House Cook
London, W1
About Us
We are the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster, a faith-based charity, home to the Archbishop of Westminster (Cardinal Vincent Nichols) and our beautiful Westminster Cathedral.
We are one of the leading Catholic dioceses in the country, delivering our charitable mission through our network of schools, parishes and social justice initiatives. We seek to positively impact the lives of all members of society.
Situated in the heart of Soho, St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Parish Church has a long history of hospitality to people experiencing homelessness through their ‘Open House’ service based in the Parish Centre. Six days per week, the parish welcomes guests for a seated, home-cooked meal, a place to relax and share good company in the local community.
We are now looking for an Open House Cook to join us on a part-time, permanent basis, working 18 hours per week.
The Benefits
- Salary of £14,976 per annum
- Life Assurance
- Access to Healthcare Cash Plan
- Discounts scheme
- Season Ticket Loan
- Cycle to Work scheme
- Access to low-cost loans with Churches Mutual
- Employee assistance programme
This is a terrific opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented cook to take on a varied and rewarding role with our organisation.
You’ll have the chance to make a real difference in the lives of others, providing essential nourishment and a sense of comfort during challenging times. Every meal you prepare carries the potential to brighten someone's day and offer hope for a better tomorrow.
So, if you’re ready to showcase your culinary creativity and flair, crafting delicious breakfasts and delectable desserts, we want to hear from you.
The Role
As an Open House Cook, you will prepare and produce first-class breakfasts for our diners at St Patrick’s Parish Centre.
Opening the kitchen, you will prepare the equipment needed and work alongside our volunteer team to ensure the smooth running of the breakfast service from 08:30 – 10:00.
You will also plan and create desserts to be served later in the week, ensuring they are suitable for storage and freezing.
Additionally, you will:
- Purchase ingredients and supplies from local shops
- Clean and organise the kitchen and all equipment at the end of each service
About You
To be considered as an Open House Cook, you will need:
- Experience as a Cook
- Knowledge and understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
- An understanding of scale and quantities when catering for large numbers
- A Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate (or be willing to achieve this through online training)
Please note, this role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
We welcome applications from practising Roman Catholics, those of other faiths, or none. What we require above all else is that you respect the values we share to help others and support decent and dignified work for all without prejudice.
The closing date for this role is Thursday 25th April 2024.
