Job description

At M&G our purpose is to help people manage and grow their savings and investments, responsibly. As a business, we are continuing to take steps towards a sustainable future, delivering better long-term solutions for our customers and clients and identifying new opportunities to make a positive impact for our environment and communities. To help us achieve our vision we’re looking for exceptional people who live our values of care and integrity and who can inspire others; embrace change; deliver results and keep it simple.
We will consider flexible working arrangements for any of our roles and also offer work place accommodations to ensure you have what you need to effectively deliver in your role.
The Role:
M&G defines Operational Resilience as “the ability to prevent, adapt, respond to, recover and learn from operational disruptions (whether foreseen or not)”. Operational Resilience partner with the Investments business to support them in delivering their most critical and impactful services to our clients when our business is subject to disruptive events.
Reporting to the Operational Resilience Lead for M&G Investments, you’ll support the business in embedding all aspects of Operational Resilience into their day to day activities. You’ll support the Accountable Executive – the M&G Investments Chief Operating Officer – in discharging their responsibilities, including: business continuity planning; the identification and maintenance of Important Business Services; regular assessment of Impact Tolerances; delivering scenario testing & driving remediation of any identified vulnerabilities.
You will work closely with other key stakeholders within M&G Investments to ensure a ‘joined up approach’ to resilience oversight and effectiveness including teams covering all pillars of Operational Resilience (third party, data, technology, people and facilities). You will also need to work alongside enterprise teams such as Operational Risk and the Group Operational Resilience department.
Through rigorous testing, you will need to analyse and identify any potential resilience vulnerabilities or risks to M&G Investment’s Important Business Services, report and propose improvements to ensure tolerances can be maintained, especially during disruption events.
During any disruption, you will be required to support the M&G Investments’ crisis management activities, feeding into the broader M&G incident management framework, and keep Senior Management informed throughout, taking actions to ensure continuous improvement post any lessons learned activity.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a first point of contact and resilience SME for M&G Investments, providing resilience and continuity advice to deliver a seamless Operational Resilience framework, owned and operated by the business.
  • Embed the Operational Resilience framework within the business to help drive the future resilience agenda.
  • Support the business in completing the annual review of their Business Continuity Plans, including refreshing the Business Impact Analysis (BIA), identifying the resources (third party, data, technology, people and facilities) that they depend on to deliver their critical processes and assessing the viability of their contingency solutions to deal with severe but plausible scenarios.
  • Support the activities to identify and maintain the M&G Investments Important Business Services (IB Services), including completing Service Impact Analysis (SIA) and setting Impact Tolerances.
  • Support with testing of Business Continuity Plans and the testing of IB Services, including preparation of scenarios, conducting testing, identifying and recording vulnerabilities that require remediation.
  • Support M&G Investments business colleagues with Incident and Crisis Management activities.
  • Delivery of Continuity and Resilience training (both formal training and informal support) to a range of stakeholders in the Investments business.
  • Support the Operational Resilience oversight of material third party arrangements.
  • Support the oversight of international intra-group arrangements.
  • Deputise for the Operational Resilience Lead as required.
Key Skills and Requirements:
  • Awareness of and interest in Operational Resilience and the step-up from traditional Business Continuity practices.
  • Ability to articulate key principles of Resilience disciplines including third party resilience.
  • Good stakeholder management including building strong and effective relationships and confident in dealing with colleagues at all levels.
  • Experienced in process analysis, improvement, change management and governance.
  • Experience of working in the Financial Sector is a must, with a good understanding of the Investment Management business a real bonus.
We have a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture at M&G plc, underpinned by our policies and our employee-led networks who provide networking opportunities, advice and support for the diverse communities our colleagues represent. Regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, nationality or disability we are looking to attract, promote and retain exceptional people. We also welcome those who take part in military service and those returning from career breaks.
