- Do you have a passion and drive for continuous improvement and are keen to learn and grow within a true market leader?
- Implement the practice of continuous improvement through the principles of the Herman Miller production system to ensure the process meets customer demand. Monitor takt times and take the actions necessary to achieve them. Drive forward continuous improvement through training, coaching, development, measurement techniques and regular team meetings.
- To lead, motivate and develop the area and team to deliver excellent customer service.
- Schedule and execute production in line with our offset policy.
- Improve efficiency through managing labour levels, overheads and material spend.
- Conduct regular reviews of production levels with planners, and work with Operations Planning to contribute to forward capacity planning.
- Ensure all product is consistently manufactured to company quality standards and that all operating procedures are complete, accurate and conform to ISO9001.
- Ensure the compliance of the team with company health and safety standards through regular site inspections, training and risk assessments. Ensure adherence to safe systems of work by auditing departmental processes.
- Maintain standards of housekeeping within the area/department which reflect the highest world class standards of professionalism.
- Ensure new team members are fully inducted and develop training plans for all staff. Coach and develop the skills, techniques and experience of all team members through internal and external training and job rotation.
- Hold individual performance reviews with all team members at least once each year.
- Maintain employee motivation by communicating company performance and other issues through team meetings.
- Control of expense budgets in line with volume forecasts.
- To effectively implement and maintain the Environmental Management System in their area of control. To undertake audits of performance in their area of control and devise and implement effective and documented corrective and preventative actions. To control waste streams ensuring adherence to environmental initiatives including waste segregation and COSHH.
- Understand the commercial aspects relating to their business and act as a member of the manufacturing work team in implementing strategic plans and objectives for the function that will enable the Herman Miller business plan to be achieved.
- Ideally 5 years experience in a fast moving manufacturing process environment having been responsible for some/all manufacturing activities.
- Experience in challenging the “status quo” and delivering effective and profitable change.
- Evidence of a truly customer focused approach.
- Experience in project management.
- A record in people management which demonstrates the ability to motivate ad galvanise people to embrace change and manage its consequences.
- Ideally Degree level qualification in a technical subject, or equivalent
- Exhibits the technical and operational skills required to achieve the role objectives. Candidates will have excellent man management skills, who leads by example and is able to adapt quickly and effectively to operational issues.
- Can demonstrate an understanding of lean thinking and Kaizen techniques.
- Highly professional attitude to the role and a clear understanding of its importance to the overall success of the business.
- Knowledge of modern manufacturing processes and techniques.
- Excellent innovative leadership, motivation and interpersonal skills.
- Change management skills.
- Can communicate clearly, both written and verbally.

- IT literate with a sound knowledge of computerised manufacturing systems.
