Job Outline
We are looking for an able, experienced and energetic person to manage the Manufacturing Department, currently comprising:
5 product coordinators
2 purchasing team
1 stores and goods in
1 Product support technician
The overall challenge is to manage the Manufacturing Department team to achieve, within budget, the objectives set by the Co-op.
Main Responsibilities - overview
We are looking for an Operations Manager to assume leadership of the company’s Manufacturing operation, and to manage the Department based at their Burwell site.
As one of four department managers you will report to the management committee.
You will play an active role in evolving our organizational structures, building on the strengths of our consensus management tradition to boost productivity and consolidate our commitment to quality.
You will contribute to the management team playing a major role in our strategic planning process. You will be responsible for managing the Manufacturing Department so as to achieve the objectives set by the Management Committee.
This Role Includes -
Management
Manage the teams (people and resources) of the Manufacturing Department which includes: Production team, Product Support & repairs, Purchasing and Goods In.
Manufacturing Production
Overall responsibility for the delivery and manufacture of product to meet KPIs and ensure on time and in full delivery to our customers.
Purchasing
Managing the purchasing function ensuring timely delivery of stocks and parts. Excellent negotiation skills and experience of managing suppliers and subcontractors. Understand materials control and longer-term planning for manufacture would be advantageous.
Planning and materials control
Run and maintain the MRP system, Planning and Materials Control functions and optimise stockholding.
Product Support
Manage the team to deliver product improvements, resolution of technical issues, including component obsolescence and compliance regulation ensuring that our products remain manufacturable and in specification.
Repair’s function
Manage the repairs function within the manufacturing team to delivery timely and efficient service to our customers.
Quality
Working within our ISO9001 quality management system. Knowledge of ISO9001 systems, their management, maintenance and compliance is desirable.
Planning and budgeting
Coordination of the Manufacturing Dept annual planning and budgeting process to deliver an agreed departmental plan. During the year you will report on progress towards the agreed objectives and monitor the budget to ensure it is on track.
Management team
As a Department Manager you will work with the broader Delta-T management team to deliver the co-op’s business objectives. This will take the form of regular management team meetings as well as ad hoc liaison with other managers on a wide range of issues.
Knowledge or experience in any of the following areas would be an advantage:
Management of ISO9001 quality management systems Scientific concepts, particularly in environmental science
Personal qualities, skills and experience
Education and experience
A track record of successful management in a manufacturing /operations role in a technical SME business At least 5 years Manufacturing management experience in SMEs within commercial electronics industries Demonstrable experience of managing manufacturing processes, purchasing functions and materials planning Experience of building commercial relations with contractors and suppliers
Skills
Strong and proven people-management skills, and ability to provide leadership within a Manufacturing and purchasing environment. Understanding of electronics manufacturing techniques. Management and development of team members ensuring effective support Excellent skills (in your field), understanding complex relationships between product design and successful manufacture. IT skills appropriate to a management position Planning and budgeting for Manufacturing Departments
