This role will require the successful candidate to undergo a National Security Vetting Check from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Main Purpose of the Role
An integral member part of the Station Management Team, providing Management of the Operations department. Whilst maintaining safe, flexible and reliable plant, deliver ongoing continuous improvements to maximise the potential of the Station within the HC&G UK portfolio. This role will also require effective management of resources to deliver operational & business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Health, safety and wellbeing
Lead the team, role modelling the right culture and behaviours. Set the expected standards and promote initiatives to improve HS&W.
Support the wider GCU targets and initiatives relating to health, safety, wellbeing and environment, including Mission Zero.
Commercial Performance
Maintaining professional and productive relationships with all relevant stakeholders, in particular those required for effective commercial operation i.e. BPM and CAO.
Contribute to the development and management of the technical data submission and delivery of the site’s business plan.
Develop / enhance Operational Strategies with BPM & CAO to ensure the station remains competitive in terms of pricing and capability.
Assure effective balance between the demands of short-term minimisation of operational costs with the longer term performance and life expectancy of assets.
Budget Management and Cost Control
Ensure Operations function expenditure is within approved budgets, plans, and delegated authorities.
Contribute to ensuring that outages, maintenance, projects and Business Improvement Project (BIP)s are suitably positioned and prioritised to allow commercial opportunities to be maximised.
Management of Staff, Competence and Development
Demonstrate strong people management competence through positive engagement with staff at all levels, and promote a positive and informed future outlook for RWE which motivates and engages staff.
Contribute to the promotion of employee wellbeing and encourage a positive team culture.
Ensure that the appropriate people are identified and given the right development opportunities for personal growth, and to meet the business demands and succession needs.
Ensure that their staff are actively encouraged & engaged in the RWE development processes and programmes (Equip, Inspire, Ignite etc.).
Provide leadership of the Operations department.
Engender a culture of innovation to ensure that business performance is continuously improved, including identifying areas where the power plant staff can learn from practices in place within the wider RWE Generation portfolio
Demonstrably lead by example in terms of promoting good practice, irrespective of where the idea originated.
Engagement with the Wider RWE Business
Manage stakeholders/partners engagement including multidisciplinary and cross functional teams.
Support the local management team in leading by example to foster ‘buy in’ and belief at all levels of the organisation that the portfolio comes first.
Provide flexible management (where appropriate) to support the RWE Generation assets, including demonstrably leading by example in terms of flexibility and willingness to change and develop.
Knowledge & Skills
- Significant experience and strong management qualities – this role is important in implementing Project Chrysalis ToM and future culture in line with that of HC&G UK & RWE Generation Power Stations.
- Management experience with the ability to operate as a member of the Station Management team while possessing good management skills to operate a strong team based environment.
- A holder of an appropriate qualification in relevant leadership / management or engineering discipline and membership of a relevant professional body.
- Demonstrates the ability to deal with constantly changing priorities. Attention to detail is essential; methodical, innovative, numerate, analytical and well organised.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations and directives.
- Possess sound knowledge on power generation safety management systems including system Safety Rules and Process Safety Management.
- Experienced in the management of complex plant and stakeholders, and able to provide advice to operations, maintenance and engineering.
- Flexible and geographically agile whilst customer & service focussed. Values and behaviours – developing the business culture through engagement and encouragement with all staff within their teams and wider portfolio.

- An expected starting salary from £65,487 to £77,043 depending on experience and up to 15% annual bonus
