We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester. Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day.  We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work life balance.

About the role…

Gloucester Guildhall – the home for live music and dance in Gloucester’s city centre is looking for an experienced and dynamic ‘Operations Team Leader’ to lead the Operations Team in the delivery of the Guildhall programme; to include live events, cinema, room hires, conferences and workshops.

Gloucester Guildhall is a vibrant venue, hosting an impressive events programme to include music, comedy, film, theatre, and immersive experiences, taking place both within the Guildhall and at several off-site city locations. Being a National Portfolio Organisation with Arts Council England, along with and a new 5-year plan, there is no better time to join Gloucester Guildhall.

Gloucester Guildhall has ambitious plans to develop its programme and you will directly contribute to this. You will attend weekly production meetings, gather information about our upcoming events and coordinate the safe delivery of the programme with your team. You will ensure that excellent customer service is provided and will continually identify areas where operational improvements can be made.

What we need from you…

We are looking for someone with experience in managing and coordinating events within a cultural venue, but specifically, someone who can lead a team in delivering excellence. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must as you will be leading a team of Duty Managers and Assistants. You will also be a key staff member in the communication of event information between teams therefore you must be a good listener, be organised and having the ability to give clear and concise instructions.

As you will be managing the Guildhall building, you will have experience in coordinating health and safety in a public venue, with a good understanding of risk management, fire safety procedures and be able to confidently liaise with other departments in the maintenance and development of the Guildhall. You will have a strong understanding of building facilities and maintenance and be confident in reporting issues as they arise.

You will act as the green champion for the Guildhall, advocating for environmental responsibility in everything that we do and be a key driver in green initiatives to improve the Guildhall. Equally, you will champion access and inclusion in your role, ensuring that everyone feels welcomed at the Guildhall.

The Guildhall is not a standard 9-5 venue. Staff are onsite from 8:30am and live events could finish between 11pm and 2am therefore you must be prepared to work across the whole programme – just imagine some of the bands and artists you may meet!

We ask for flexibility from the role, which is why this role will work to an annualised hours contract.

Please note that this role can be physically demanding with the set up and resetting of event spaces. Please consider this when applying for this role.

What we can do for you…

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:

  • Flexible working pattern

  • Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

  • Generous annual leave entitlement - 25 days annual leave rising to 30 days after 5 years continuous service (FTE)

  • An option to purchase 10 days of additional leave per year (pro rata for part-time staff)

  • Regular job-specific training, career development and qualification opportunities

  • Supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision

  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone, and an in-house Occupational Health service

  • Cycle to Work scheme (Salary Sacrifice -T&C apply)

  • Employee discount scheme

  • Discounted tickets for local events, and reduced rate use of GL1 facilities

  • Access to employee led networks such as Black Worker’s, Prism (LGBT+), Carers, Disability and the Young Employees Network, and opportunities to participate in our Equalities Working Group.
