Job Summary:
To work in a small team to identify current activities for Lewisham young people in order to support their successful participation.
To coordinate a range of projects to ensure effective participation of young people, through the Lewisham Participation Strategy, and in order to continue to reduce NEETs and Unknowns.
To provide an effective and efficient tracking and data analysis in support the Lewisham Participation Strategy to help meet national targets.
To be on duty at Unit 19/ Baseline providing IAG drop-in services and one-to-one support to service users.
To work directly with young people identified as having additional needs e.g. NEETs, Children Looked After (CLA), Youth Offending Service (YOS) and other vulnerable groups on a one-to-one or drop in basis, supporting them to achieve positive life outcomes.
To deputise on behalf of the Participation Manager on matters related to the Participation Team management duties and Baseline.
Key Duties/Accountabilities:
To provide one-to-one IAG and needs assessments for Lewisham young people aged 16-18 (up to 25 with disabilities) to access positive activities and other support services in order to achieve positive life outcomes, including support with housing, financial (Income Support, and JSA/Universal Credit), health, education, employment, relationships and personal development.
To provide Careers Pathway interviews and outcome reports for new to the borough year 11 admissions. To ensure that reports are provided for Lewisham Fair Access Panel.
To provide a drop-in, ad-hoc service to young people at Unit 19/ Baseline and / or other locations as required.
To have a broad knowledge of other agencies, employers and services and work in partnership with them to support Lewisham young people e.g information gathering, signposting, making appropriate and accurate referrals and undertaking follow up to ensure needs are being met.
To undertake employment outreach for job opportunities for Lewisham young people.
To lead for the Participation Team on the relationship with the Youth Offending Service (YOS) and related caseload in order to ensure the participation of Lewisham young people:
To daily maintain and update associated administrative tasks e.g. IYSS case management programme (e.g supplied by schools, colleges, LAC and YOS) and team, apprentice and agency staff caseload management.
To attend relevant meetings e.g. Participation and Engagement Strategy, YOS and supervision meetings, as well as accessing training and other staff development opportunities.
To lead, coordinate and maintain the communications and social media strategy.
To develop links with local training providers, employers, Job Centre Plus and broker opportunities to ensure young people have a clear progression pathway towards training and employment.
To have oversight door knocking strategy with the Participation Team in order to contact Lewisham young people.
Respond to mailbox enquiries from 14-19 Strategy, Baseline and Lewisham Young People emails or to forward to the appropriate persons.
Essential Experience Required:
Good knowledge of the aims of young people’s services.
Knowledge of the problems facing young people in an inner-city environment.
Good Knowledge of administrative systems and databases.
Ability and willingness to learn new services as and when they are introduced to the Participation Service.
Ability to work to quantitative and qualitative performance targets.
Experience of implementing and coordinating projects.
Experience of working within a people-based service.
Experience of work using telephones, texting and social media
Experience of working within a team.
Experience of using databases and spreadsheets and analysing data.
Experience of dealing with challenging customers on the phone or face to face.
Experience of achieving quantitative and qualitative performance targets.

The Participation Team is a Lewisham Service based at Unit 19, Lewisham Shopping Centre.
This position is subject to a DBS check.
This position is “cover for a secondment”.
