Purpose of the post The post holder will have key responsibility for delivery of the Public Engagement Strategies for Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and for the Public Engagement in Data Research Initiative (PEDRI). Reporting to the Head of Public Involvement and Engagement, this role is integral to raising awareness of opportunities for the public to be involved in our work and in demonstrating how we work to ensure transparency, trustworthiness and real-world benefits in data driven research. You will be based in the PPIE team, and will work with and the Communications team, and collaborate with colleagues across HDR UK to scale up the delivery of our successful patient, public and practitioner Engagement and Communications activity. This is an exciting time to be joining HDR UK and PEDRI as they embark on delivering their strategies which you will help shape and deliver. You will support the PEDRI coordinating unit and lead their Engagement and Communications activities. We are seeking an outstanding and experienced individual with a proven track record of leading Public Engagement and science communication targeted at a diverse range of audiences. The successful candidate will share HDR UK’s values, have strong collaboration and influencing skills, excellent communications skills, be comfortable with supporting multiple projects at pace in a complex organisation and sector. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a clear willingness and passion to support organisations within PEDRI to trial, develop and deliver innovative approaches to Engagement and communication. Responsibilities Lead delivery of HDR UK PPIE and PEDRI strategy, drawing on the experience of relevant communications staff. Build and maintain internal and external relationships with various stakeholders. Support external advocacy and leverage all opportunities to influence policy. Influence our stakeholders to embed best practices in Public Engagement and Communications. Work with partners to help raise the profile of the HDR UK and PEDRI work. Develop methods and innovative approaches. Expand our reach to involve underrepresented and underserved groups. Report on people’s experience of their involvement with HDR UK and PEDRI. Use established project management and evaluation principles and methods. Commission and manage external suppliers. Ensure that communications are shaped by patients and the public. Act as an ambassador for patient, public, and practitioner Engagement and Communications. Person Specification: Educated to degree level or equivalent. Experience using CRM Systems. Experience creating and delivering Public Engagement and Communications strategies, activities, and campaigns. Experience leading events aimed at the public. Experience producing high-quality content for various channels, including website content. Success delivering complex programmes with multiple components and collaborating organisations. Success running several projects at once. Experience facilitating meetings and workshops and delivering impactful presentations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including attention to detail. Ability to explain complex scientific information without technical jargon. Analytic skills with a logical approach to problems and solutions. Proactive and supportive approach to engagement. Ability to work as both part of a team and autonomously.
