King’s College London is looking for a Student Engagement Officer to work in one of its most high-profile schools within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy: the School of Global Affairs, which includes the Departments of Geography, Global Health & Social Medicine and International Development, the African Leadership Centre, and the Global Institutes (Brazil, India, Lau China and Menzies Australia). You will join a friendly and hard-working team and will play a vital role in supporting our diverse student community. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your creative engagement skills including producing short videos, social media posts and organising events. If appointed, you will work across all cohorts – undergraduate through to PhD students – in a number of departments across the School, playing a coordinating role in delivering induction activities, building community, along with activities and systems’ improvements to enhance the student journey. You will be expected to have a positive impact on the student journey by taking an overview of broader pastoral matters, working with colleagues to enhance support arrangements for students. The job would suit someone with excellent stakeholder engagement, social media and design skills, possessing great attention to detail and the ability to manage projects effectively. Given the range of areas covered by the role, and the need to work with a variety of stakeholders, the successful candidate will need to be flexible, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and willing to pitch in with a variety of tasks when needed. This post will be offered on an indefinite contract. This is a full-time post Essential criteria Educated to degree level or equivalent (OR has relevant work experience) Experience of working within the Higher Education sector, ideally based within a faculty, school or department and/or substantial experience of working in a customer focused environment Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and build effective working relationships with students, academic and non-academic colleagues Well-developed understanding of event management principles and the ability to plan and deliver a variety of events to enhance the student journey Well-honed written communication skills, adaptable for both formal correspondence and social media communications An understanding of the potential challenges facing students in Higher Education, and in particular students with additional needs, with evidence of building community and/or supporting stakeholder management Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and an ability to demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to work, taking the initiative to progress ideas and proposals through the appropriate channels Ability to demonstrate empathy when supporting students in pastoral matters and providing advice Desirable criteria Experience of using different communication channels e.g. social media, print and web Further Information The School of Global Affairs is located within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy.
