Job description

For more information please visit: https://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/our-history/home. We are seeking to recruit a Payroll & Pensions Manager to join the HR Directorate. The role holder will be responsible for managing the timely and accurate provision of an outstanding Payroll and Pensions service to the University ensuring compliance with statutory regulations. You will manage and develop a small Payroll and Pensions team to deliver a high-quality, customer focussed service. Working closely with the Senior Payroll and Pensions Manager, you will drive forward any process improvements to maximise efficiencies and quality of service. Key duties of the role include: Complete complex reconciliations of payroll control accounts, pension schemes and RTI returns. Ensure timely completion of all monthly payroll processes in line with approved schedules, creating and submitting BACS files and RTI submissions by due dates. Prepare and submit pension data returns to meet monthly and annual requirements for all pension schemes in operation (USS, LGPS, TPS, NHS, NEST). Provide specialist Payroll and Pensions information and advice to staff, dealing with complex queries. Produce regular and ad hoc reports on Payroll and Pensions data, and analysis of the data being provided. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in team management, and in the end-to-end monthly payroll processing for a medium or large sized organisation. The candidate should have strong and up to date knowledge of Payroll and pension legislation and best practice, and have experience of managing Defined Benefit pension schemes. Knowledge of Higher Education or public sector is desirable. Experience of working with Unit 4 ERP system is highly desirable.
