What will you be doing as a Payroll Assistant?
Under the direction of the Payroll Officer, support the provision of a consistent Payroll service and running of the internal payrolls
Ensure that technical payroll tasks, including fees and expenses are undertaken effectively and efficiently to produce accurate and timely payroll outputs, providing technical support as appropriate
Assisting with the running of the payrolls fees and expenses payments in line with the internal Financial Regulations
Making payments for International Fees through Convera (previously Western Union)
Assisting with the issuing of Cash Passports for staff
Maintaining strict adherence to HMRC Guidelines and the internal Financial Regulations in relation to Payroll, fees and expense payments
Deal with enquiries about fees and expenses payments, liaising with colleagues in the Employment Services Team, the wider P&OD Directorate and where appropriate Faculty and PSS areas, escalating more complex matters to the Payroll Officer
Undertake appropriate checks to ensure the accuracy and validity of all payments prior to transmission
Recouping of overpayments owed to the organisation
Assist with the creation and maintenance of a library of exception and data quality reports and ensure the despatch of such reports to relevant teams
Maintaining confidentiality of information and protecting personal data in line with internal procedures
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the role as directed
Positively promote equality and diversity, ensuring duties are carried out in accordance with internal policies and good practice
Contribute to the promotion of a culture of continuous improvement

We would LOVE to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:

Knowledge and experience of Payroll processes, ideally with a recognised payroll qualification
All round Payroll knowledge and/or experience, including PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP etc, and an awareness of associated HR transactions
For this role an experience in processing expenses or fiancail transactions will also be considered
Experience of working in a process driven, team environment, demonstrating an ability to be flexible and provide support for colleagues
Good communication skills, demonstrating an ability to deal with a wide range of people

Salary GBP24248-25742 dependant on experience
