We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead our established payroll team and ensure the efficient management of our payroll function. You will be reporting to a passionate Group Financial Controller who is looking to take the Team to the next level whilst you strive for excellence together.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and supervise a payroll team of four, ensuring high levels of performance, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Oversee the entire payroll process, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time.
  • Manage the pension submissions and auto enrolment process requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK tax laws, pension regulations, and employment legislation.
  • Manage and resolve complex payroll issues and queries from employees and other departments.
  • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and review payroll reports and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Liaise with other departments; HR, Finance, IT and all services to build and maintain excellent working relationships
  • Manage the relationship with payroll software provider, ensuring the payroll system is up to date with latest software releases and legislation
  • Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation and best practices, ensuring the company remains compliant and efficient.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of payroll processes and systems, identifying and implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Provide training and support to the payroll team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum of 3 years proven experience in managing a payroll team, preferably in a business employing 1,500 employees across multiple entities.
  • Demonstrable experience of payrolls with hourly payments and associated time and attendance software
  • Strong understanding of  Microsoft Office packages e.g. Outlook/Word/Excel
  • Experience of using Sage 50 Payroll would be advantageous but not essential
  • Professional payroll qualification (e.g., CIPP certification) is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of ongoing process improvement identification and implementation
  • A collaborative approach with other areas of the business to help resolve queries and a drive to seek out process improvements where possible.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships at all levels within the company.
