About the department

RSM’s People Advisory Services help organisations enact their people and talent strategies as well as manage their people challenges using a multi-disciplinary approach in the UK and globally. The team combines RSM’s experts across employment tax, employment legal, payroll, HR, equity reward and global mobility. This alliance of specialists brings clients a unified and seamless service and allows you to be part of a collaborative and cohesive service line striving for excellence, innovation and common goals.

People and Pay (PAP) is the HR and payroll division, delivering cutting-edge and premium payroll software and solutions to an exceptional range of clients. These span from small entrepreneurial enterprises to large corporations, inclusive of top-name brands across industries such as retail, manufacturing, financial services and the public sector to name but a few.

About the role

As a Payroll Senior, you will report to the Payroll Team Leader or Payroll Manager, supporting them with the operation and profitability of the team and client whilst balancing the management of a client portfolio of your own. You will handle escalations of technical and commercial queries from Payroll Assistants and Executives, and be the primarily cover for the Team Leader when they are not available.

You'll ensure accurate and timely outsourced payroll production for various clients in accordance with statutory regulations, focusing on excellent customer service. Continuingly adapting to changing landscapes and with a brilliant infrastructure of specialists, training and technology, you will be at the forefront of payroll, becoming a true expert and consultant.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing your own client portfolio which may consist of some of the larger and more complex payrolls.
  • Completing end to end payroll processing.
  • Reviewing payrolls processed by other members of the team.
  • Assisting with training and development of team members.
  • Processing / publishing BACS files for approval.
  • Service multiple clients with the focus on support of the team and the Team Leader, to deliver excellent service to our clients.
  • Assisting with training and development of team members.
  • Writing and updating procedure notes where necessary.
  • Positively contributing to the team and its overall future development and success.
  • Supporting and covering for the Team Leader when they are unavailable.
  • Demonstrating company values and setting an example for peers and new staff.
  • Adhering to internal policies and procedures. 

About the ideal candidate

The ideal applicant will have significant practical understanding of payroll. This will include strong knowledge of statutory and legislative regulations, including workplace pensions, and proven experience in MS Office, in particular Excel. You will have knowledge of month-end and year-end returns and balancing with the ability to perform manual calculations, as and when required. You will have previously supported and/or supervised other payroll professionals, contributing positively to a team. The professional payroll qualification and/or previous experience of working in a multi-frequency payroll environment are advantageous.
