Job description
Are you passionate about helping others? Do you have lived experience of mental illness or caring for someone who has a mental health condition?
Would you like to use this experience to help people affected by mental health challenges?
We have exciting opportunities for both Peer Support Workers in Ealing Southall with lived experience of recovery from mental health challenges or supporting someone with mental health challenges to join our new Mental Health Integrated Network Teams (MINT) based across the trust.
The Peer Support work service is growing in West London NHS Trust, and it is a really great time to be joining us. We need people who are prepared to use their own experience to support and encourage others to develop an independent and meaningful life. The posts are people who have never worked as a Peer Support Worker and want to move into a role which will prepare them for a career within Peer Support work, sharing the wisdom of their own lived experience both within the team and with clients to embed Peer Support and recovery values within the service setting.
The Peer Support Worker (PSW) will be required to work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the MINT service.
The PSW will act as a role model by providing recovery focussed support for service users to support them to establish a greater sense of autonomy and ownership within their lives.
Service users within the MINT service may have been discharged after a long length of stay in an in-patient setting, or have been placed in supported accommodation or be stepping down into a more independent setting after residing in a supported environment.
The PSW will act as an advocate for recovery within the MINT Service and an ambassador for recovery for the Trust and with partner agencies.
The PSW will encourage and support service users to use available resources whenever possible and will share their personal life experiences to foster a relationship of trust and mutuality.
