We are looking for a new member of the HR team.

Our HR Team

Our People Team leads on Academy wide people activities through partnership with the Leadership Team, Line Managers and employees and a close connection to the Trustee Board. We also work closely with our externally facing Diversity and Inclusion team and our employee groups. We are a small, approachable, ambitious hardworking team who are building on the strong foundations already in place to enhance the support and leadership we provide the Academy in the people space, while supporting a growing employee population, which currently stands at nearly 240.

With a ‘People first’ mindset, we strive to continuously improve the level of service we provide our employees and maximise the value of our resources. We champion and enable a supportive, diverse, collaborative, and inclusive culture, creating an even better place to work for our highly motivated and talented employees.

Our first People Strategy was introduced at the end of 2022 with the aim to provide clear direction and focus for our people activities while promoting positive employee well-being at all levels of the organisation. We are focused on ensuring the Academy continues to attract, retain, motivate and develop its employees and ultimately, achieve its current organisational strategy and beyond.

The role

This is an exciting hands-on role in a busy well-respected team, who provide a high-quality service to our stakeholders at an exciting time in the Academy’s organisational journey.

This role is a vital enhancement to the People team and will provide the incumbent with a fantastic opportunity to grow already strong skills and build upon existing HR knowledge. It will provide involvement in all areas of generalist work with a particular focus on supporting our talent management work, working closely with our other People Advisor and People Officer as well as the Head of People Operations and our Senior Talent Acquisition Manager.

The role will involve the hands-on management of day-to-day people activities as well as project-based work to further implement our People Strategy. It will provide responsibility, ownership, opportunities to be creative and lead on people initiatives and own relationships.

As an integral part of our People team, the post holder will:

  • Work closely with colleagues in the people team and the wider Operations Directorate to ensure continuous delivery of a proactive, professional and customer focused people service for all employees across the Academy
  • Support the Head of People Operations with providing expert people advice and guidance to managers and employees
  • Work closely with the Senior Talent Acquisition Manager to partner with Directorates to coach and support Line Managers to plan effective recruitment campaigns while ensuring the Academy attracts, recruits, and retains a diverse workforce
  • Support the Head of People Operations and wider team with the development of people projects and employee engagement initiatives, collaborating with cross organisational working groups to help achieve the academy’s people and culture aspirations
  • Act as an escalation point for others in the team when required, reviewing people documentation such as changes to employee terms and conditions of employment
  • Support the People Team to effectively respond to employee queries sent to the People Team mailbox, taking ownership for responding and resolving queries directly and escalating complex queries and/or high-risk cases to the Head of People Operations as needed.
  • Play an active part in the high quality, approachable and credible People Team - this includes a willingness to support People Team administrative tasks such as employee training coordination, contract creation and employee benefits administration as required

If you are looking to be part of an inclusive team, who are motivated by doing a great job and making a difference then this is the right role for you, and we’d love to receive your application.

Who are we?

Engineering matters. It shapes our everyday lives, from our ability to turn the lights on, have a hot shower and commute into work, to the mobile phones we rely on to keep connected. The Royal Academy of Engineering is a charity that harnesses the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone. In collaboration with our Fellows and partners, we’re growing talent and developing skills for the future, driving innovation, and building global partnerships, and influencing policy and engaging the public. Together we’re working to tackle the greatest challenges of our age.

Our aim is to make the Academy the best place to work for the staff we have and those we seek to attract.

Why work for the Royal Academy of Engineering?

The value we bring as experts in our field and change agents is highly recognised and makes the Academy a motivating place to be.
