Here at Human Appeal we have an exciting opportunity for a People and Culture (HR) Manager to join our team based in Cheadle, Greater Manchester.You will join us on a full-time basis on a permanent contract and, in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £42-45k per annum.

Human Appeal is a faith-based charity that aims to abolish poverty by providing humanitarian aid, sustainable development programs and championing advocacy for our beneficiaries worldwide.

As People and Culture (HR) Manager, the successful candidate will play an integral role in managing all aspects of HR and the full employee lifecycle for Human Appeal’s (HA) UK and US offices, while providing technical support and oversight to HA’s global fundraising offices (Ireland, France, Spain etc.). This will include all aspects of organisation design, recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, performance and talent management, employee engagement and employee relations. All in order to enhance the efficiency and productivity of HA, to enable an increase in income and organisational growth year-on-year, as well as to ensure HA’s compliance with employment law in order to protect the organisation from economic and reputational harm.

Key duties and responsibilities of the People and Culture (HR) Manager:

  • To manage the day to day running of HR operations for HA in the UK and US, including leading a HR team of 2 UK-based HR Officers and 1 US HR and Recruitment Specialist, and provide technical support to HR personnel at HA’s global fundraising offices, to ensure consistent, best practice standards  
  • To provide strategic support as Deputy to the Associate Director of People and Culture (P+C), as well as developing the annual strategic plan for the UK and US P+C teams, managing the UK and US annual budget, and reporting on workforce statistics on a weekly basis to the Board of Directors and on a quarterly basis to the Board of Trustees, to ensure P+C effectiveness
  • To manage and oversee all aspects of HR administration, to ensure compliance with GDPR regulations and audit requirements, and to ensure staff are paid correctly and timely
  • To manage and oversee all aspects of recruitment and onboarding, to ensure HA attracts and welcomes the best possible talent
  • To manage and oversee all aspects of learning and development, to ensure long-term workforce retention and succession-planning by providing regular training and learning opportunities for staff
  • To manage and conduct all aspects of reward and engagement, to ensure HA’s workforce feels valued and is retained

What we’re looking for in our People and Culture (HR) Manager:

  • Degree-educated, ideally with an undergraduate / Masters or CIPD qualification in Human Resources Management
  • At least 3 years’ proven management experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in HR, with strong up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law
  • Demonstrable experience of managing multiple complex ER cases, including investigations, grievances, disciplinaries, redundancies, and capability processes
  • Computer literate and proficient on MS Office Suite
  • Experience using HR management, recruitment and training software (e.g. People HR, ATS Applicant Tracking Systems, Humentum)
