An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the Legal Services team at Sheffield City Council in the role of a Planning and Highways Lawyer.
We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic, flexible, and enjoys teamwork. We welcome applications from individuals who are driven to apply their knowledge and experience in delivering practical, solution-focussed legal advice to the Council on Planning and Highways issues.
The successful candidate will manage a wide range of Planning and Highways related matters to include drafting and negotiating all types of Planning and Highways agreements, attending and briefing Planning Committee and have experience of advising on and supporting Planning and Highways officers on policy issues.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide authoritative advice to the Council’s Officers and Members, ensuring that decisions and actions are lawful. Experience of working within the public sector would be useful but is not essential if the candidate can show requisite experience of Planning and Highways law.

This role is based in Sheffield, but we actively support flexible working arrangements, and the City is centrally located with excellent transport links, and we consider the wellbeing of our employees in the way we design and deliver our legal services. This is a politically restricted post according to the terms of Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
