Are you passionate about safeguarding the green heart of our communities? We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Planning Officer to take the lead on all tree related matters including assessing trees for protection, processing applications and appeals, providing specialist advice and guidance to Planning Officers, enforcement, the public and councillors. If you are passionate and committed about trees, landscapes, environment and communities, then we want to hear from you.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Tree and hedgerow protection: process applications for pruning or felling of trees protected by orders and within conservation areas and manage applications under the Hedgerow Regulations. Monitor and review existing Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s), administer new TPO’s and oversee related matters.
  • Landscape guidance: provide expert advice and guidance on landscape proposals submitted for consideration by the Council.
  • Customer satisfaction: First point of contact for advice on planning matters related to tree and hedgerow protection. Manage, deliver and maintain a quality service.
  • Enforcement of planning control: Assist with the enforcement of planning control relating to breaches of legislation governing the protection of trees and hedgerows.
  • Administration: maintain a personal case load and appeal register. Assist in processing planning applications and handle all related tasks such as meetings, site inspections, correspondence, negotiations and reports.

What we are looking for:

A good communicator with knowledge and proven experience of planning procedures and the related planning law framework, in particular for TPO’s, Hedgerow Regulations and landscape schemes. A Degree or Diploma level qualification in Planning or Arboriculture or a related discipline is required.
