Hours
This role will be working 33 hours per week, not including lunchbreaks. The hours of work will be 3x 12 hour shifts 7am to 7pm, including an hour for lunch unpaid, and another flexible 20 minute break (paid), alternating between Monday to Wednesday and Thursday to Saturday. The salary range offered has already been adjusted to reflect the reduced hours.
Introduction
The Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team (PMST), consists of approximately 115 in-house staff and a large number of contractors who maintain the Parliamentary estates (Commons & Lords). Our remit includes the buildings, engineering systems and furnishings to ensure a fully functioning, safe working environment equipped for the demands of the 21st century.
The in-house Reactive team consist of 45 craft persons and assistants ranging from electricians and plumbers to upholsterers and locksmiths who provide a day to day reactive repair service across the estate.
The Role
You will work as part of a team of approx. four Plumbers based on the Parliamentary estate in Westminster. You will help to maintain our grade one listed buildings and UNESCO world heritage site as well as all the other buildings that make up the parliamentary estate.
The role is varied; including fitting taps, clearing blockages, isolating supplies, fixing various components are just some of the tasks you can expect in your work. We have well equipped workshops to support you in your work.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Carry out reactive Plumbing maintenance tasks such as unblocking toilets, sinks etc
- Carry out related multi-skilled mechanical maintenance tasks such as repairing heat emitters etc
- Planned preventative maintenance tasks.
- Semi-skilled work (e.g. re lamping of light fittings, small painting tasks, assist in erecting light weight mobile tower scaffolds - training provided where necessary).
Skills and Experience
Essential Qualification:
- NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
Technical Experience, Capability and Understanding
Experience of:
- Providing a wide range of reactive and planned Plumbing services
- Working on a complex and demanding estate to provide a high quality service
Capable of:
- Carrying out reactive Plumbing and basic mechanical services
- Using mobile IT to receive, complete and update work tasks live
- Using IT to email, and use MS Office software
Understanding of:
- Methods/constraints when working in an occupied building
- Techniques used to maintain a complex building including the ability to interpret and work from instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to your trade without direct supervision
- Building management systems
- Relevant Health and Safety legislation relating to maintenance activities, including manual handling
Communication:
- Communicates ideas to stakeholders to resolve problems with a broad range of people at all levels.
Working Together:
- Ability to work successfully within a team, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity and inclusion to deliver high-quality services.
Providing a Customer Focused Service:
