Job description

Vacancy Information
Chief Constable Jo Shiner: I am immensely proud and privileged to lead Sussex Police. Every day I see our teams achieving phenomenal results - preventing crime, leading successful operations and complex investigations, making arrests, and often putting themselves in danger in order to go the extra mile to keep our local communities safe. Together, we work on the following three priorities that underpin everything we do. As a member of our policing family, you will play your part to:
• Protect our communities
• Catch criminals
• Deliver an outstanding service to victims, witnesses and the public
To protect our diverse communities, we listen and engage. Whether people are in our cities, our towns or in our villages, in person or online, residents or visitors, we work to understand community issues and concerns and demonstrate we are acting on them in both our words and actions.
We catch criminals, with prevention and deterrence as the starting point. With additional officers, skills and capacity, and working with our partners, our teams are empowered to put the public first.
We strive to deliver an outstanding service, getting it right first time,to grow trust and confidence in Sussex Police. It is only with the help of our local communities that we can succeed in our duty to keep people safe, starting with our very first interaction, right through to the quality of the evidence we present to secure a conviction or positive outcome.
This is underpinned by a professional, healthy, diverse and inclusive workforce that take pride, and are valued, for the work they do.
We are going through considerable modernisation to transform what we do, how we operate to the highest standards, and how we improve our service to local communities. We see a Police Officer's role as a role which is more than working to reduce crime. It is now just as much about reducing the fear of crime, working in partnership with communities to make a real difference and improve the quality of life for everyone.
Sussex is one of the largest counties in the UK, and is divided into three Divisions, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex. The vibrant City of Brighton & Hove is a lively, diverse and rapidly expanding city, which boasts good transport links to the capital. The county also has a varied mix of smaller coastal towns and different rural communities, with some of England's most attractive countryside. Towards the north of Sussex the UK's second largest airport, Gatwick, can be found, which sees millions of passengers each year travelling to around 200 destinations worldwide.
