Job description

Would you like to join RBL’s active and influential Campaigns, Policy and Research team? Would you like to to champion and advocate for the interests of the Armed Forces community? We are looking for a Policy Manager to lead a team of Policy Officers, develop evidence-based policy positions and proposals on issues affecting the Armed Forces community, and lead stakeholder engagement and influencing work to make them happen. Come and be part of the leading Armed Forces charity, making a difference to the lives of those who serve or have served to keep us safe and protect our way of life.  This role will see you as a key member of the Campaigns, Policy and Research team, which is central to ensuring that the needs and interests of the Armed Forces community are reflected in the policies, practice, and decisions that affect them. Over the last century, RBL has achieved real, lasting change for those we support, and continues to drive change in policy and practice - from the fight for fair compensation, to improved access to social care support, embedding the Armed Forces Covenant in law, and including a question identifying veterans and their households in the Census. Would you like to join us? Key responsibilities will include: Developing policy positions and proposals, identifying changes in policy design and/or implementation that could deliver improved outcomes for the armed forces communityDesigning and overseeing delivery of a rolling programme of communications and engagement to share policy positions and asksEstablishing a strong network of policy professionals, influencers, and decision-makers in statutory and voluntary organisations across the sectorEnsuring RBL is seen and heard to be the leading voice on policy matters affecting the Armed Forces communityDeveloping and overseeing a project plan for the work of the policy team, ensuring delivery of activities and outputs to time, budget, and quality requirementsLine managing Policy Officers, enabling them to develop skills and experiences to maximise their impact in their roles Here at RBL, we aim to support our people and their wellbeing, with a package including generous paid holiday allowance and pension scheme contributions, and a range of optional benefits and discounts. You will be contracted to your home address, and you will perform most of your work remotely there using our collaboration tools to work with colleagues, with occasional travel (incl. for monthly team meetings) to our London Head Office hub. Should you wish to explore a hybrid London working contract (to include an additional London Supplement to salary), this can be discussed at interview stage. For more detailed information about the role, please see our Vacancy Information Pack attached to our direct advert. RBL is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive organisation, reflecting the diversity of the armed forces community and of wider society.
