London Hybrid 9 month contract and 12 month contract available for Policy Officer
Job Purpose:
The successful candidates will play a pivotal role in advancing the policy program by contributing to the development of creative, proportionate, pragmatic, and evidence-based policies, processes, and guidance. This involves close collaboration with various teams within and external stakeholders to support the delivery of both the education strategy and the broader corporate strategy.
Main Responsibilities:
Support the development of evidence-based policy proposals, strategy, guidance, or other protocols.
Collaborate closely with work stream leads, operational teams, and policy teams to implement practical and operationally effective policy or strategy proposals within agreed-upon milestones.
Draft clear and concise documents for internal and external audiences, adhering to in-house style and often working within tight deadlines. This includes drafting guidance, procedural documents, responses to consultations, briefing senior colleagues, and creating high-quality papers and presentations for senior stakeholders.
Contribute to equality analyses.
Support the development of research and engagement activities necessary for policy or strategy development.
Cultivate strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, establishing credibility within these relationships.
Represent the team and directorate at internal meetings, as needed.
Represent at external meetings across the UK and travel to offices across the country, as required.
Apply and manage relevant diversity and equality policies and practices.
Apply relevant management systems, procedures, and policies related to risk management, health and safety, information security, and business continuity.
Perform any other reasonable duties assigned from time to time.
Person Specification - Essential Criteria:
Demonstrate an understanding of the complex environment in which they operates, quickly becoming familiar with relevant legislation, policies, and team programs.
Possess the ability to write clear, concise reports, Board and Council papers, and other documents using plain English. Present complex information and policy options persuasively.
Display the ability to build positive working relationships collaboratively and sportively within Directorate teams, across wider business areas, and with external stakeholders.
Exhibit the ability to interact, communicate effectively, and influence decision-making at all levels.
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, ensuring the needs of internal and external customers are met positively.
Possess the ability to handle conflicting demands, prioritise work, and plan effectively to meet objectives and milestones.
Work autonomously, exercising good judgement about when to seek input from senior colleagues.
Think creatively to identify problems, develop proportionate solutions, and suggest improvements to policy development.
Proficiently and creatively use MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
