London is a dynamic and truly global city, but faces significant policy challenges – from insufficient housing through to unequal access to economic opportunities.
London Councils – the voice of London local government – is looking for a highly motivated person with enthusiasm, innovative ideas and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic, quickly changing policy environment. They will support and lead on policy work and Projects as we seek to address many of these challenges on behalf of Londoners.
London Councils has agreed a set of Shared Ambitions, focusing on political leadership, being a trusted partner, adding value and championing innovation and leading practice.
You will work on a range of different policy projects across the teams, collaborating within London Councils and with external stakeholders too. You will need to work agilely and flexibly on key priority areas that will change over time. Priorities for the first six months could include working with boroughs on several of the following areas: provide effective support to refugee and asylum seekers; drive inclusive economic growth in London; support Londoners to upskill and get a job and improve housing opportunities for Londoners.
You will have the ability to build effective relationships across sectors, communicate, influence and negotiate a diverse range of stakeholders, as well as experience of creative problem solving and managing varied projects in a pressurised environment.
The role will require that you analyse Policy and statistical information, deliver and commission research, draft reports and provide concise recommendations to support boroughs in making London a better and fairer city. You will apply this analysis and policy development to improve results for Londoners and to make London’s case to both central government and a range of critical stakeholders in London government.
The role will give you the opportunity to help develop solutions to some of the biggest and most interesting challenges facing London local government, and to be part of shaping the future of our capital city.
London Councils is the collective of London local government, encompassing the 32 boroughs and the City of London Corporation. They collaborate through London Councils to deliver their shared ambitions for London and its residents.
