We have an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Health Practitioner to join our Port Health team at Southampton City Council. Southampton is considered one of the major container ports in the UK. The port is also well known for the many Cruise vessels that visit the designated cruise terminals at Southampton.
The Port Health team delivers a high standard of service undertaking a range of statutory duties to safeguard public health. We are responsible for the inspection and clearance of imported food at the Border Control Post and issuance of ship sanitation certificates on board merchant and passenger vessels within the Southampton Port Health Authority area.
We seeking a qualified Environmental Health Officer who can demonstrate competencies is in food sampling and inspection work. You will need practical experience of working with businesses to ensure they comply with food safety legislation and you should be confident taking enforcement action where necessary. A full comprehensive driving licence is essential in order to attend various locations within the Port Health District.
There is an established shift pattern in place whereby you will be required to work a 6-day rota from 1300 – 2100 weekdays and 0800 – 1600 on Saturdays. You will be required to be on standby (out of hours) duty throughout this work period.

- The working hours for this role are 37 hours per week
- This is a permanent position.
- This post also has an additional 10% shift allowance on the salary quoted above.
