Job description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.

We seek an experienced Investment Engineer to join our Global Investment Analytics Team at HSBC Asset Management. This team provides analytical support, reporting, and internal oversight for all investment strategies and regions. The role involves improving and broadening our front office capabilities and tools, with a focus on Portfolio Analytics, risk modelling, and machine learning. The objective is to enhance our Portfolio Analytics platform to drive automation, flexibility, and innovation. The person in this position will work across various asset classes, including ESG and Responsible Investment, and will offer direction and assistance to our offshore team.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Enhance and expand front-office capabilities and tools in Portfolio Analytics, risk modelling, and machine learning.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and upkeep of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, procedures, and policies to optimize data operations for performance, reliability, and consistency, including enhancing data flow transformations.
  • Maintain a strong grasp of investment risk models, our multi-process investment framework, and market risk influencers on product performance and attribution.
  • Create and provide advanced risk analytics to assist portfolio managers in gaining deeper insights into portfolio risks and exposures.
  • Collaborate closely with investment teams and cultivate strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to efficiently develop analytical tools.

Request

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong proficiency in Python coding is a key essential requirement for this position. An extensive background in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) or data engineering development and/or data analysis is also a requirement.
  • Proven track record in creating and implementing data pipelines using GCP (Google Cloud Platform) and/or AWS (Amazon Web Services) data technologies.
  • Familiarity with DevOps toolchain CI/CD processes/tools like Gitlab/Github, Jenkins, and Air Flow is crucial.
  • Strong skills in working with SQL and Oracle-related databases are essential.
  • The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with risk or other analytical systems, bolstered by strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with an aptitude for engaging with stakeholders at different levels, are vital.

This is a hybrid working role with the base location as London. The successful candidate will have to have the ability to commute to this location.
