Job description

Founded in 1894, City, University of London is a global university committed to academic excellence with a focus on business and the professions and an enviable central London location. City attracts around 20,000 students (over 40% postgraduate level) from more than 150 countries and staff from over 75 countries. In the last decade, City has almost tripled the proportion of its total academic staff producing world-leading or internationally excellent research. During this period, City has made significant investments in its academic staff, its estate and its infrastructure and continues to work towards realizing its vision of being a leading global university. Background Bayes Business School (formerly Cass) is among the small group of business schools with an established reputation for excellence in both business research and education. Bayes holds the “triple-crown” accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). The school and its programmes are consistently ranked among the best in the world. Bayes is not complacent about its achievements. On the contrary, we will be seeking to significantly develop our research and education and, critically, our engagement with practice. We are conscious that business schools are experiencing disruption in how research is undertaken and disseminated, how education is delivered and what is expected by business and society from a business school. The Faculty of Finance, among the largest finance groups in the UK, is home to world-leading academics in all key areas of finance, including shipping, energy, trade, and commodity finance. Responsibilities Bayes Business School are part of the UK National Clean Maritime Research Hub (UK-MaRes Hub) –a consortium of 13 UK universities and over 70 project partners– which aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of the UK maritime sector. The post holder will be expected to develop empirical economic and financial models, collect and analyse data, engage with various stakeholders (as the UK Department for Transport), and contribute to research administration and dissemination of research findings to funding bodies and at conferences. Person Specification PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant field – shipping or energy or economics or finance (ideally, shipping economics or shipping finance) – the successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of econometric modelling. Knowledge of software such as R or Python for data analysis/econometrics is a strong advantage. Experience of engaging directly with stakeholders, with the ability to translate complex ideas into a way that will engage those groups. Additional Information City offers a sector-leading salary, pension scheme and benefits including a comprehensive package of staff training and development. Closing date for applications: 1st February 2024 at 11:59pm. Interviews are scheduled for 19 February 2024. City, University of London is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in all its activities, processes, and culture for our whole community, including staff, students and visitors. We welcome applications regardless of age, caring responsibilities, disability, gender identity, gender reassignment, marital status, nationality, pregnancy, race and ethnic origin, religion and belief, sex, sexual orientation and socio-economic background. City operates a guaranteed interview scheme for disabled applicants. The University of business, practice and the professions.
