As a Barclays PostgreSQL Engineer, you will assist in shaping the direction of our database administration, ensuring our technological approaches are both innovative and relevant. This is an exciting role, guiding high-impact projects to fruition, collaborating with management, and developing strategic roadmaps that align with the Bank’s business goals. You’ll be part of a Database Engineering team, helping to influence the performance and reliability of our platforms, focusing on database scalability, security and performance.

What will you be doing?
• Working with database engineers and other cross-functional squads to implement important initiatives, such as migrating database clusters to Kubernetes
• Exploring and assessing the evolving database and tech landscape, ensuring the Bank remains at the forefront of innovation
• Driving improvements in database management to meet rising demands in volume, performance, security and availability, keeping our platforms optimised and ahead of challenges
• Designing, implementing and maintaining of cloud and primarily on-prem database environments
• Articulating technical and business concepts to different audiences and be able to influence technical decisions with solid metrics collection and proof of concepts
• Collaborating with product management and driving the strategic direction for our organisation’s database architecture, ensuring alignment with overall business goals
• Evaluating and implementing database management and deployment technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
• Providing thought assistance in the field of database administration, staying abreast of industry trends, security flaws and best practices

What we’re looking for:
• Experience as a Principal Level Database Administrator, with a focus on PostgreSQL and similar database technologies such as Oracle or MS-SQL
• Experience with DevOps automation tools such as Code versioning (git), JIRA, Ansible, Containers and Kubernetes (OpenShift), database CI/CD tools and their implementation
• Subject matter expert in PostgreSQL, serving as the highest level of technical escalation for complex database issues
• Experience in Data migrations across different database technologies

Skills that will help you in the role:
• Cloud experience, AWS, Azure, GCP
• Experience in a financial environment 
• Experience in system configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible for database server configurations
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation/migration tasks

Where will you be working?
You will be based in Radbroke, Knutsford. The Barclays Technology Campus just outside Manchester is our tech command centre and a vital strategic powerhouse behind our global operations. The campus is set in a 64 acre self-contained site, in a beautiful green environment and it offers unrivalled facilities for work and for play. We have an onsite gym, as well as outdoor tennis, football and cricket areas, as well as onsite restaurant and coffee shops.
