The role
As a Principal Combat Systems & Electrical Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Directly supporting Royal Navy Warships by providing technical expertise at the waterfront and discharging authoritative engineering decisions to ensure ships remain safe, operational and available globally.
Day to day, you'll act as a customer representative at the waterfront, complimenting the MoD Authorities in technical decision making, reacting to operational defects and design queries direct to warship's projects both within the Dockyard and those out around the world on active Navy operations.
The primary responsibilities of the Principal Combat Systems & Electrical Engineer include:
- Leading a team of Maritime Combat Systems and Electrical Specialists
- Responsibility for spanning the boundaries between the Babcock delivery teams, the MoD customer and Design Services, through the interpretation of customer requirements and management of their embodiment
- Producing and approving technical recommendations and decision that assure warship design intent is maintained and evidenced
- Fully optimising the availability of complex platforms through informed analysis of the up-to-date material state for each Class of warship
- Making informed support decisions that define, modify and verify the successful completion of design changes to the platforms.
This role is full time - 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard 2 days per week with hybrid working from home arrangements. There is a requirement to travel occasionally as part of the role.
Essential experience of the Principal Combat Systems & Electrical Engineer:
- Technical knowledge and experience of Marine Combat and Electrical Systems
- An experienced problem solver with good negotiation skills, you will be able to offer options and solutions to complex problems
- Strong written communication skills that support the delivery of well structured, unambiguous technical documentation
- Ability to work in a complex environment with many different stakeholders
- You will need to demonstrate that you manage priorities to drive projects and issues to completion.
Qualifications for the Principal Combat Systems & Electrical Engineer:
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline and/or HNC/HND with significant relevant experience at the discretion of the Supportability Capability Manager
- CEng/IEng or working towards CEng status
Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
