Job description

Why Work for us: Employee benefits (southampton.gov.uk)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Data Architect to join our Data, Intelligence and Insight and Health Determinant Research Collaboration (HDRC) Teams at Southampton City Council.

We are looking for someone with experience of working in a data development or Data Architecture role with excellent numerical, technical and analytical skills. Experience of working within a local government IT or intelligence function is an advantage but not essential.

You will support the implementation of the SCC Data & Intelligence Strategy and HDRC Business Plan, through leading the development of a central data lake and ‘single version of the truth’; establishing and maintaining data pipelines, designing data models / infrastructure and automating data processing and data transformation activities to support efficient reporting and analytics across the council.

You will be expected to be able to create, amend and validate complex code using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, SSRS, Power BI and Advanced Excel functionality to develop and deliver business intelligence tools, data platforms, systems and processes, capable of being up scaled to meet future demands and support evidence-led decision making across the council. The successful candidate will have experience of leading the development, maintenance and administration of data warehouses / lakes, integrating data from multiple sources.

We are currently implementing our new Data and Intelligence Strategy, as well as building an exciting new research function through the Southampton HDRC, so this is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to influence and drive forward the future research, analytical and technical data infrastructure for a modern council.
