Are you looking to work at the heart of the Treasury and Government, operating in a truly unique and rewarding role? The Principal Private Secretary is the Chancellor’s main link into the department, owning the Chancellors priorities in policy making and relationships across government.
About the Team
As a leader in the Ministerial Support Team, you will champion the support provided across our six Ministerial offices and support a team of around 50 people. We are a friendly and hard-working team that play an important role in providing the best advice to our Ministers whilst maintaining a collaborative and inclusive environment.
About the Job
This role is essential for ensuring that the Chancellor’s Office runs effectively, and draws on partnerships with Special Advisers, our Executive Management Board and the Permanent Secretary to provide exceptional support to the Chancellor. In doing so, you will:
- Own our relationship with Number 10, developing strong partnerships with the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Ministers and other key stakeholders to ensure the Chancellor’s priorities and represented
- Ensure that the departments key policy issues and the Chancellors priorities are aligned, immersing yourself in the strategic direction of policy making to connect the vision of key ministers with the departments delivery
- Coordinate key Treasury events including Budgets and Spending Reviews, working closely with a variety of teams and managing the relationship between policy making and the Chancellor
There are very few roles across government that have such a distinct influence, as you will be an essential link between high profile teams as the department delivers its key priorities.
About You
The role is founded on effective partnerships with a range of colleagues across government, and therefore you will need to demonstrate true credibility when influencing at a senior level.
You will need to be able to adapt quickly to the demands of the post, developing solutions under pressure and consulting with colleagues appropriately in developing and implementing them. Your leadership skills will be key to your success in the role, proving your ability to effectively lead a diverse team.
