Job description

Are you a Process Safety Engineer seeking an exciting opportunity to support our operations to achieve safety excellence, continuous improvement and support a safety culture?

If so, we have a great opportunity for you in our Operations team as a Process Safety Engineer, supporting the safe operation of our anaerobic digestion sites in Poole and Bournemouth.

What you'll do

The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for developing and supporting Process Safety systems and services. The role supports our DSEAR and associated statutory safety compliance.

Reporting to the Process Safety Manager and working with Operational Managers, health and safety professionals and external parties, you will provide support to ensure effective Process Safety, systems and compliance are in place.

You will also provide expert advice on hazard identification (HAZID), hazard operability (HAZOP), layers of protection analysis (LOPA) and safety integrity level (SIL), while also promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours as you come across them.

You will complete site incident investigation, root cause analysis and reporting. You will also recommend remedial actions and facilitate training workshops where necessary, including supporting and developing course content.

Additionally, you will undertake regular audits and inspections while reviewing/challenging work in progress, as well as ensuring existing inspection reports, DSEAR assessments, asset standards and safe operating procedures are reviewed and regularly updated.

What you'll need

To be successful, you will be an analytical thinker with strong planning and prioritisation skills. You will be an excellent written and verbal communicator and confident articulating views on a preferred course of action in a clear manner.

In addition, we are looking for:

  • a degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • at least five years' experience in a Process Safety Engineer role in a high-hazard industry, preferably with experience of gas systems
  • chartered status/membership to a relevant industry body, eg, IChemE (beneficial but not essential).

You should also have a knowledge and understanding of:

  • environmental regulations and best practice procedures
  • DSEAR, Process Safety, HAZOP and HAZID in an operational environment
  • health and safety and environmental regulations and best practice procedures
  • engineering principals
  • mechanical tools, equipment and systems
  • water supply, wastewater treatment and recycling operational assets (beneficial but not essential).
