Job description

About us

King’s Digital is an innovative and collaborative team at the core of King’s College London’s online education development. We partner with academics and professional services staff across the university and with our external partners to design, develop and deliver a wide range of educational programmes in line with King's Education Strategy. Together, we develop online master's degrees, short courses, bespoke executive education courses, and increasingly, stackable micro-credentials.

You will be joining us at an exciting time as we seek to realise our strategic ambition of being the UK leader in continuing education, specifically in the areas of learning design, development, consultancy, and partnerships.

We are a dynamic team with ambitious growth targets in a priority area of development for King’s. We proudly foster a supportive culture and community which prioritises both individual and collective wellbeing. We actively work to protect and improve the wellbeing of all staff; be it physical, mental or social, and recognise this as central to our work and success.

King’s offers a wide variety of support to employees, including flexible working arrangements, paid maternity/shared parental leave, menopausal support, an active wellbeing programme, training and development opportunities and much more. All of our staff benefit from a generous pension contribution as well.

The role is primarily based at King’s Strand Campus though you may be required to travel to other campuses on occasion. As part of King’s trial of hybrid working, all team members can work remotely for part of the week if they wish.

About the Role

This role is part of the User Experience team and will work alongside user experience research, product design and web development to improve the learning platform that supports our online and blended courses.

Your will design the UX and UI of the virtual learning environment with reference to user research, working closely with other members of the UX Team to understand the best way to optimise the look and feel of our product and design system for an impactful and consistent student experience.

You will bring your passion for UX Research and Design and join the King’s Digital team to support informed decisions based on learners’ needs that impact their happiness, engagement, adoption, retention, and task success and help us shape the future of education.

Your day-to-day role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Design user interfaces and interactions, advocating for the best product design for our learners.
  • Design, maintain and constantly improve our design system, providing style guidelines to the wider team.
  • Conduct UX research whenever applicable to support design decisions, and to evaluate design impact.
  • Align deliverables to the design and innovation strategy and product roadmap to support the team’s backlog and pipeline prioritisation, advocating for the best product design for our learners.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with other Designers as well as other disciplines, such as UX researchers, Developers, Learning Designers, E-Learning Content Developers and others, leading projects from beginning through to implementation.
  • Demonstrate research-informed design decisions for websites or applications for various platforms, browsers and screen sizes that is fit for purpose and optimises the experience.
  • Champion design processes and best practices based on expert knowledge of user experience design, user interface design, user interaction design, design systems, prototyping and testing.
  • Communicate proficiently using contemporary digital design, communication and management tools such as: Microsoft Suite, Figma, Miro, Maze, UserBrain, EnjoyHQ, and others.

This is a full-time role – 100% full time equivalent, and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
