We’re dedicated to making our digital channels accessible to everyone. We’re looking for someone who can help us to improve website and social content by working alongside our Communications and IT teams. The successful candidate will be confident pitching and leading on projects, committed to a culture of accessible content creation, and a strong communicator.
Responsibilities
- Training and supporting others to fix and prevent accessibility issues.
- Advising on accessibility for new projects.
- Monitoring accessibility issues, proofreading and approving web content for publication.
- Engaging with customers and stakeholders and sharing their feedback
- Exploring and reporting on potential improvements to the website and other digital channels.
- Carry out accessibility reports and audits and feed these back to the Content Manager.
- Lead advice on design components and coding, to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 for all projects.
- Become the Council’s main contact to external services to oversee technical changes and improvements.
Essential experience and knowledge
- Expert knowledge of industry accessibility standards, i.e Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Experienced use of different content management systems.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA.
- Understanding Universal Design principles.
Desirable
- Experience with Jadu CMS is useful, but not essential.
- Experience with assistive technologies, like screenreaders.
